4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 yesyouam (976) - Fairport, USA - SEP 7, 2011
Elysian Night Owl is a solid, copper ale with a few tiny particles and a thick, yellowish foam that lasts all night and leaves thick lacing on the glass. It has a very spicy aroma with lots of nutmeg, cinnamon and probably pumpkin is the nose. There’s a sweet, brown sugar type of smell. It’s incredibly soft and smooth. It’s full bodied and it kind of leaves the mouth grudgingly. Afterwords, my tongue feels kind of grainy, but it’s very silky while the beer is still in my mouth. Tart, caramelly malt with some medicinal hops and pumpkin pie spices all are tied up pretty evenly to make a well balanced flavor. At the finish, there’s a sort of green apple sourness. Some parts of the flavor seem Belgian to me, but I can’t narrow down why. This is a pretty interesting beer that’s difficult to pin down stylistically. It’s here to deliver pumpkin and spice and it does so. This beer is filling. Drinking this bottle feels like eating a loaf of bread.

Thanks to 5000 for sending me this bottle. Reviewed from notes.
The beer pours a hazy orange color with a white head. The aroma has a lot of pumpkin and some cinnamon, as well as a light amount of tartness. The flavor is similar, only there is not tartness. I get some pumpkin as well as some nutmeg and allspice. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

On tap at Chuck’s 85th.
Pours dark amber with about a finger of off-white head.
Smells strongly of pumpkin spices. Bready and sweet.
Tastes a bit bitter, small pumpkin flavor, melons and bread.
Very light and a bit watery.
I remembered it being better the last time I had it. It just didn’t seem to have the same kick this time. Still not a bad representation of the style, but obviously not the Great Pumpkin.
3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 stantheman (89) - British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 26, 2011
From a 1 pint, 6 ounce (650 ml) bottle purchased at BCLS. Medium to dark amber in color. Pours a nice, thick, beige-brown head. Highly carbonated. A lovely sweet aroma of fruit and spice, possibly cinnamon. Palate is a bit thin. Flavor is sweet and somewhat vegetal. Overall it’s pleasant, mildly reminiscent of pumpkin, cinnamon and vanilla. Couldn’t detect much if any malt or hops. Easy drinking, but no wow! feeling.
