Bottle. Pours light amber with thick, fluffy white head and nice lace. Nose of sweet caramel, peppercorn, saison yeast funk, and lemon. Medium body, somewhat sweet. Decent saison.

Extra points for being really good at being a "peppercorn saison", but that was a genuinely horrible idea, and the beer didnít do a thing to argue against that. If you want to simulate this beer, take a saison and grab your pepper shaker. Combine moderately. Youíve now created a 70th percentile beer by rate beerís ratings.

When they say peppercorn, they mean peppercorn. The pepper flavor is strong, and it is too much in the aftertaste. I donít know, this beer might be good with a steak, but as for a drinking beer... I will pass. I donít like this beer at all. I donít think Iíll be able to get down 22 ounces of this stuff.

20140408 22oz bottle from Honeygo. Motor oil color, like a green tinged amber, with lofty and lasting beige head. Aroma has good grainy, grassy saison yeast notes, but not much hint at pepper. Flavor is quite peppery, but the beer has an apple juice tartness to it that doesnít jive as well with the spice as Iíd like. Lingering wateriness and pepper at the finish. Itís okay, but not something Iíll seek out again.

Bottled. Cloudy yellow. Not much head. Deep peppery lemon zest. Flowers etc. Pretty decent.

Bomber from Wallabyís. I picked this up a few times after I had it on tap at the Public House. Iím sad that it was a one time release because thereís nothing quite like it. Other peppercorn saisons are usually tasty but lack the depth and intensity of Elysianís. The aroma is delightfully potent with spicy and rich pepper. Itís natural like sniffing a grinder of a fine peppercorn blend. The saison yeast provides a gentle fruitiness that works great with the spiciness. The flavor is just as powerful as the nose. Plenty of real, fresh peppercorn. Itís very bold and intense, but not fake or unpleasant. The light fruitiness is the perfect complement. I wish Elysian would release this again.

Pen & Paper Log (Aug 2013) c/o a gift from a friend returning home from OR. I want to preface this, by saying that when I rate a beer - I always consider what the bottle tells me it is, and I base my rating on that. If it doesnít measure up, Iíll deduct points. If it is something else, Iíll deduct points. If however it does measure up, but is offensive Iíll also take that into fact. I will also give a good overall if the beer is good, but doesnít quite live up to what it says it is. Aroma - no surprises the bottle said Peppercorn melange and I figured it might carry that essence - it peppercorn, herbs, and Belgian yeast Apperance - body is yellow-orange, hazy liquid, and about an 1" of white foam. Taste - I will give the brewer only one concession, and that is it is Odd & is Peppercorn, itís awful - no one can possibly drink this and truly be a having a pleasant experience, unless of course you like abuse. Itís peppercorn fluid. It tasted like a slurry of granulated peppercorn. Beer nomenclature hardly fits. Palate - body was medium, texture was on the thin side, the carbonation is lively, the finish and overall experience is awful. Itís really bad. This beer, if you want to call it that fails to meet any reasonable amount of balance. It is at best a marinade for meat, and even then it really has to be a savory meet that can withstand itís over the top qualities. Absolute drain pour, avoid

2013-11-29. Orangey amber body foamy off white head. Aroma is quite peppery and floral, lightly yeasty. Flavour is similar, moderately peppery, warm dryish alcohol. Pepper grows as you go. Average bodied palate, good carbonation. Pretty nice but just a touch too peppery for my tastes. Bottle shared by Blankboy

[My bottle (660ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jercraigs & mabel.] Pours a deep golden-orange with lots of tiny sediment and an average size long-lasting frothy off-white head. Nice aroma of pepper first followed by fruit, yeast and grain along with some floral notes. Flavour is like it says, a Saison with peppercorns and I love it. Alcohol is well hidden, itís dry and very enjoyable. Average to medium bodied. I really dug this.

New Beer Distributors, NYC 650ml ($9): Pours golden with a nice white head. Aroma is of funky yeast, fruitiness. The pepper didnít really hit it for me until I tasted the beer. At first, it is sweet, dry, and a bit funky, but then the peppers hit pretty hard towards the end. Really, this is the most peppercorn beer I have ever had. Not bad, but perhaps too spicy.
