Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jan 30, 2005 Amber-brown colour. Toffeeish, earthy aroma. Quite chewy with great dark malt flavours. Full body. Enough bitterness to carry the beer but not so much as to obstruct. Quality example of a style seldom done with inspiration. hopscotch (4595), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Sep 23, 2008 Updated: Sep 30, 2008Bottle… Post RBSG ’08 O-Town/Vero Beach Throwdown Chapter 8… Clear, deep copper lager with a small, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Good retention. The nose is a marriage of sweet dark malts, chocolate and vinous notes. Full-bodied and lightly creamy with dancing carbonation. A moderately sweet dark fruit essence comes to the forefront while a medium metallic bitterness stands firm, but off to the side. Dark fruit finish with just a dash of salt. Kudos to mgaumby10 for providing the bottle! JPDIPSO (4286), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Jul 12, 2004 Dark mahogany color with a hint of rust. Smallish dark cream head with small bubbles of lace. Dark caramel aromas. Light sweet malt start leading to heavier caramel and toasted malt flavors. Gets sweeter and stickier as it warms but the flavors seem to soften. beerguy101 (3489), Newark, California, USA Aug 12, 2004 Dark brown color. Small sized beige head. Aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet. Touch of hops as well. A medium to full bodied bock. Malts are fruity and sweet. Touch of hop bitterness. But mostly smooth and sweet malts. Caramel and toast. Nice beer. Very smooth taste. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. 5000 (2400), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Jul 23, 2005 Bottle: Deep amber, very dark, large light beige foamy head, wonderful lacing.   Dark bready aroma, slight fig, a touch of alcohol, burnt caramel, all while having a certain sourness about it.   Fairly sweet start, quite malty, bready, a hint of dark pitted fruit, and a bit of alcohol.   Medium bodied, average mouthfeel.   Clean finish, dark malty sourness lingers.   Enjoyable!
