Blind tasting at sk8vikings porter / stout tasting, beer no 19. Pours dark brown almost with huge head. Aroma is quite citric. Flavour is slight malty, quite thin. Roasted malty finish. Bland.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Pours hazy, opaque black with a tall, rough shaving foam style head leaving laces. Lightly tart aroma. Thin and watery, lightly roasted malt and a huge carbonation with big bubbles. Subdued bitterness. I reckon there’s an infection hiding in here somewhere. 070907

black, roasted malt aroma, thin body, lots of roasted malt flavor, good deal of hop and malt bitterness in the finish, more of a stout other than the body, too much malt bitterness

still lots of dry roasted flavor but tempered a bit with some rich chocolate that’s come to the foreground
-------- /> Date: 08/16/2003

sweet chocolate malt coming through on the aroma, malt flavor keeps getting richer

Tap at the Barking Dog in Seattle.

Pours dark brown with a light-tan head. Nice roasty aroma, full roast-coffee flavors, mildly salty, thoroughly enjoyable but compared to last night’s Olfabrikken Porter this is just a regular old beer.

Draft at Elysian Fields in Seattle. Pours a deep oil brown with a beige head. Aroma of dark roast malts and coffee grounds. Medium bodied with a dry texture. Flavor of coffee, burnt malts, and bitter chocolate. Dry and bitter finish. This could use a bit more residual sweetness to balance things out, at least for my personal tastes.

Bottle split with BossHossBikes in a blind tasting. Pours really black. Just some faint brown/red hues are present. The aroma is pretty tame but balanced with hints of amusement park coffee, prunes, soy sauce. I pick up soy sauce and syrupy chocolate in the flavor. The slight bitterness which is present doesn’t have strong coffee flavors. This is a nice, palatable, even flavored beer with a more traditional robust porter character. This is modest, though very drinkable. I was expecting something more aggressive given my limited experience with Elysian and the violent imagery on the label here.

Pours opaque and very dark -almost black- with a thick tan head formed from variously-sized bubbles that laces the glass. The aroma is fantastic: chocolate, molasses, maple syrup, fruit, and just a hint of hops. The flavor follows the aroma: chocolate, molasses, maple, dark fruit, and sweet malt. The beer finishes bittersweet. The mouthfeel is medium in body and creamy - but towards the back of the tongue is unexpectedly dry and cloying. Overall, a very decent porter.

(Picked up in Seattle while on vacation). Pours very little head, which dissipates fairly quickly. Totally dark with very little light passing through. Roasty aroma. Nice light roasty flavor, not burnt like a stout would be. A bit of a sharp aftertaste develops on the tongue. Most definately would buy this again.
