pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Jul 30, 2007 Black with a nice tan head. Aroma is heavy coffee, light smoke, cream, chocolate. Taste is fairly smokey, with coffee, very roasty, light caramel. Very good Porter. Body is fine. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA Jul 28, 2007 Sampled this one on draught at the brewery in Seattle, WA. Pours to a jet black color, with a thick, creamy tan head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is very robust, with big aromas of piney hops, paired with some good dark chocolate aromas and roast. The palate is full on the tongue, with really good chocolate and coffee flavors, paired with hints of dark roasty flavor. This beer finishes dry and bitter with piney hop flavors, and roasted barley flavor that lingers. Delicious beer, just packed with great aromas and flavors. This beer is a natural with any sea food dish on Elysian’s menu, and makes for an exceptional pint of beer to enjoy at the bar. Another impressive beer from Elysian. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Jul 14, 2007 The Dan Journal #85. Tasted 5/29/2007. 22oz bomber. Deep dark brown hue. Almost opaque. Finger width of creamy head. Too cold right now...After warming, the astringent acidic bitterness is replaced with a good chocolate and brownie flavor. Good malt roast. Sweet chocolate finish. Touch tart. Touch fruity. Touch smokey. Nice. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA Jul 9, 2007 Black body, thick, fat bubbled tan head, nice thick lacing. The aroma is very earthy and super-roasty, with understated caramel and plenty of chocolate. Light coffee and burned bread notes. Flavor is burned still, very roasty and very satisfying. Finishes smooth, very dry and roasty. Mouthfeel is medium to medium-full bodied, highly carbonated, lightly grainy. Very good, an excellent straightforward approach to the style. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jun 16, 2007 22 oz. bottle poured a black body with tan head and left good cover of lacing on glass. At first the aroma and flavor was a dry carbination cola. By the middle to finish good chocolate, smokey and roasted nut aromas and flavors were present. Left that dry carbinated coco aftertaste on the palate. Good brew enjoyed it after a few that were not that good. kiwibrewer (4), Christchurch, New Zealand does not count Jun 13, 2007 Pours black with a beautiful tan head. Aroma lets things down a bit but the flavour is great. Dried fruits and dark roasted malt dominate. Full flavour and mouthfeel give the impression of a higher alcohol content. A beauty. paleface1982 (13), cabot, Arkansas, USA Jun 3, 2007 this is the beer that made me a porter fan forever.if you dont like this beer, you need to seek medical attention.cuz your tastebuds are all outta wack.i cant say enough good things about the elysian brewery and their restraunt.excellent food and some of the finest beer in the country.i hope one day they will distribute to the south.if your ever in seattle, you have to visit one of their locations. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Jun 2, 2007 Updated: Jun 25, 2007Draft at the Elysian Fields brewhouse. Pours deep opaque black with a thin but determined off-white head. Unfortunately this one has another pretty vacant nose. Moderate and creamy attack. Nice roast and chocolate mid-palate, but nothing overly forceful. Very light and slightly peppery hop clinging in the finish. When food comes alongside and this beer has to go head-to-head, the mid-palate fairly well disintegrates into flavorlessness. Nice enough, though.
