mlist55 (210), media, Pennsylvania, USA May 23, 2007 Pours black in color with a tan head. Chocolate nutty and sweet nose. Chocolate, molasses, some bitterness seeming to become more bitter and darker in flavors (molasses and dark chocolate) as it warms up. Easy to drink and a once again a decent beer.
Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark May 3, 2007 Thank you Tom (After4ever) for this very nice porter, that has a lot of flavour and a low ABV. It’s black-brown with a tan, creamy head. The aroma has notes of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavour is smooth, nice and relatively light - but yet full-bodied and nice - and above all: It’s uncomplicated and very charming. it has light sweetness, light chocolate, coffee and licorice and a rather nice bitter finish. A nice surprise! 2053 beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA May 2, 2007 This is just an awesome porter, very heavy stout like build, smooth on the palate with a heavy weight to it. Pours black with a tall tan head. Very roasty chocolate flavor with a dry cocoa and bakers chocolate finish. Good balance with the hops. Just a realy well made beer. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 22, 2007 Bottle courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a very dark ruby-brown with an average size diminishing tan head. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, chocolate, hops and a hint of coffee. Flavour’s a little roasty with some chocolate and a good amount of floral hops and a short bitter finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good Porter, I easily drank a bomber and would gladly have it again. holdenn (1432), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 11, 2007 22 oz bomber that I picked up at Sams for 4 bucks. Although I haven’t been super impressed with Elysian, they aren’t bad brews and are at a good price. This one is no different. Pours black in color with a tan head. Chocolate nutty and sweet nose. Chocolate, molasses, some bitterness seeming to become more bitter and darker in flavors (molasses and dark chocolate) as it warms up. Easy to drink and a once again a decent beer. A dark brown nectar from the brewing gods. This was a great porter. Loved the rich deep chocolate malts and the slight use of hops to balance it out. A tasty drink for all.
buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Mar 27, 2007 Bomber from Liquid Solutions. Pours black with medium tan head. Nice tan lacing also. A real nice looking pour. Aroma is chololate, malts and faint hops. As it warms the aroma seems to get more milky. Flavor is roasted bitter malts, cocoa, light smoke and light hops in the finish. Body was just a tad thin but overall it was pretty damn good. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Mar 22, 2007 2006 Vintage... Elysian Perseus Porter pours a dark brown color with a foamy tan head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is weak milk chocolate. Roasted malt and coffee are most noteworthy in the flavor when this beer is at colder temperatures. Once it comes up in teperature somewhat, the aroma becomes more more like semi-sweet chcolate and the flavor shifts a a dark chocolate and cocoa. The finish is robust and roasty with notes of black coffee and blackened/burnt malt. The palate is soft, smooth, and mellow, but the carbonation level seems like a bit too much for this beer at times. This is good, but seems somewhat weak in aroma and flavor at colder temperatures. However, once it warms it really seems to open up and the aroma becomes more rich and the flavor deepens a little. Don’t let it warm up too much though because then it seems to get a little bit yeasty and much more dry... This was the second beer from Elysian Brewing that I have tasted and I am very impressed with their beers (especially at the very reasonable price that they go for!). Like "The Immortal IPA", this beer is well balanced, flavorful, easy to drink, and very enjoyable overall...
22 oz bottle (5.4% ABV) from first trade with bitbucket in November 2006. Thanks Bob!
