Elysian Perseus Porter pours a dark brown color with a foamy tan head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is weak milk chocolate. Roasted malt and coffee are most noteworthy in the flavor when this beer is at colder temperatures. Once it comes up in teperature somewhat, the aroma becomes more more like semi-sweet chcolate and the flavor shifts a a dark chocolate and cocoa. The finish is robust and roasty with notes of black coffee and blackened/burnt malt. The palate is soft, smooth, and mellow, but the carbonation level seems like a bit too much for this beer at times. This is good, but seems somewhat weak in aroma and flavor at colder temperatures. However, once it warms it really seems to open up and the aroma becomes more rich and the flavor deepens a little. Don’t let it warm up too much though because then it seems to get a little bit yeasty and much more dry... This was the second beer from Elysian Brewing that I have tasted and I am very impressed with their beers (especially at the very reasonable price that they go for!). Like "The Immortal IPA", this beer is well balanced, flavorful, easy to drink, and very enjoyable overall...

Full mouthfeel, chocolate and coffee flavors but what really stands out is the hops. Definitely more bitter than other porters. Stands out from the crowd. Very satisfying. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 18, 2007 Bottle. Pours a deep, dark brown with garnet highlights and a thick, lacy tan head. Aroma of toasty barley with chocolate and just a hint of hops. Medium body with carbonation tending to the light end of the scale. Lots going on in the taste, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, smoke, maybe even some fruit? Espresso-dry finish. Nice! grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 30, 2006 12 oz bottle pours a black color with a frothy brown head. The aroma is rich and aromatic with notes of roasted grain, coffee, espresso, and dark chocolate. The taste is at first smooth, then it becomes a bit sharp as the carbonation hits my tongue. This beer tastes quite dry and the full roasted flavors cause it to drink even drier. This taste has notes of coffee. This beer is light on the palate. Much better than I was expecting.

This bomber poured a very thick dark brown with a tight brown head, nice lacing. Toasted malts with coffee and vanilla and a spruce like hoppiness. Oh yeah, there is some smoke? I detect a lot of smoke. There is coffee and toasted malts. This is a light-medium body, easy to drink porter. The end is extremily dry with a slight hop-bitter tail. Nice, glad I got to try this.
