hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 23, 2006 Bottle... Pitch black ale with a large, frothy, lightly tanned head. Excellent retention. Only when I hold the glass in front of a strong halogen bulb do I see its true crimson color. Earthy, roasty nose with notes of chocolate, coffee grounds and charcoal. The flavor leans on the burnt, bitter side of balance. Medium to full-bodied with a scouring mouthfeel and meek carbonation. Lengthy, burnt, dry finish. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 17, 2006 Pour is opaque black with a dense tan head...smell is rich and sweet and dominated almost totally by cocoa...taste is sweet and roasty with lots of chocolate flavors...some hoppy bitterness toward the finish...tasty... kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Aug 16, 2006 22 oz bottle. Large bubbly tan head with staying power, Beer pours a near black color. Mild aroma of chocoate, plums and raisins.
Medium bodied. Taste has roasted malt flavor and notes of chocolate, caramel and coffee. Nice smooth finish with a bit of a bold hoppy ’oompph’ at the end. Leaves a bittersweet licorice aftertaste that makes you yearn for the next sip. Pretty hoppy for a porter but what do you expect from the pACIFIC nORTHWEST? Over-all a winner and a BOLD porter. jake65 (1657), Williston, North Dakota, USA Jun 30, 2006 Dark brown pour with a smaller tan head. Flavor is rich with coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt tastes. Aftertaste is a smooth chocolaty roasty feel, no real bitterness to speak of. Pretty basic recipe for a porter, but well done. Hooker (450), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada Jun 27, 2006 Clear black colour with burgundy notes thtoughout, and large frothy brown head. Light smoky roasted malt nose. Mild roasted malt taste with mild bitter finish. FridgRaider (108), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 7, 2006 Almost black in color with a light brown creamy head. Chocolate and roasted something aroma. flavor kinda fruity a with a little bit of chocolate. joss (3632), Garching b. München, Germany May 30, 2006 Bitter chocolate, roasted grain, munerally and berrylike aroma.
Black hole coloured, brown creamy head.
Nice roatey flavor, full chocolaty with a hint of oranges, nutty, raisins. Medium body, mellow mouthfeel. Nice chocolate aftertaste. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Apr 19, 2006 Draught Colour not determinable. Very much roasted grains and impressive coffee nose, "BIG", but in a grand way. Smoked, cigarette ash, dry, bit severe, but very "closed" on a "right" porter, with all the requirements and without the sourishness of a stout (as wrong as that may be historically speaking). Dry, to style; medium bodied. Now here’s a porter for you.
