robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA Dec 12, 2005 Black Coloring with Tan Head. Rich Malt and Very Tart - Agreeably Very Much Like a Sour Brown. Perhaps a Bit Too Tart for a Porter. Still a Very Interesting Take. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Dec 7, 2005 Updated: Apr 18, 2008Original Rating 12/7/05: Black color with a thin head. Sour and slightly winey aroma. It took a while to figure out the taste, but it was mostly like raspberry and kind of reminded me of a Flemish Sour. Not bad, but not what I expected. 7/3/7/3/13. Re-rate 4/18/08: Courtesy of Skyview. Dark brown color with a large head. Light aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Plenty of chocolate and bitter roasted malt. Slight smoke. Much better. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Dec 2, 2005 Pours a dark blown color with a thick creamy head. Aromas of roasted grain, coffee, dark chocolate. Taste is more roasted malt, light caramel, bitter coffee, and some smoke. Probiere (992), Iowa, USA Oct 29, 2005 Mmm, my label is completely different but this is the beer. This was kind of thin bodied, and I can’t put my finger on what it was about the coffee flavor that I didn’t like. There some vanilla in here, and some chocolate cake. And some smoke. Maybe that’s it. Chocolate cake and smoke and tobacco don’t mesh very well with me. Strange that I love Stone Smoked Porter, but that’s a horse of a different color, very meaty, oily and thick. It doesn’t try to be a dessert beer, which I think this sort of does. At any rate, it is missing the beautiful chocolate milk flavors I most love in session strength porters. Sorry, but I think I’ll take a pass. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA Oct 16, 2005 This is one beautiful beer to feast your eyes on. Dark brown with a thick tan head that does not seem to fade. I like the aroma but it was not particularly strong. There was coffee, chocolate, sour apple, espresso and hints of vanilla. Chocolate, sour apple, courant, coffee and espresso make up the taste a long with a touch of vanilla. The palate is lacking thickness. It is pleasant though. Nothing wrong with this Porter. Give the aroma some time to sit with this one, because it gets better. JCW (1262), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 14, 2005 Updated: Mar 13, 2007Very nice porter, thx herbjones. Dark brown color, small tan head. Aroma is pretty much from the British style hops, fermenting leaves and twigs. Flavor is very caramel, nutty, slight roast. All flavor that a porter should have. Ale type body, meaning fairly thin. Sweet caramel finish. glkaiser (1150), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 14, 2005 I love Porters...and this is one of my favorites. Perfect dark brown medium head. Dark brown, almost black color. Can’t pinpoint the aroma....smells like a good espresso to me. Incredible smokey porter taste. Doesn’t quite follow through with the espresso taste. Surprisingly sweet aftertaste. This is one of the most drinkable and inviting Porters I’ve ever tasted. HEW (1), Washington, USA does not count Sep 5, 2005 One of the finest examples of Porters I have encountered. In fact this one was so good it turned into loving Porters above almost every other beer. The hint of vanilla is what hooks me. Great flavor, but seems easy to ruin based on multiple visits to the brewery. Sometimes the mix can be aweful, but when it is right, there is no better Porter in my world.
