Aroma of dark malt, dark fruit, chocoff, vanilla, and cabernet. Tastes malty, with a firm hop and chocoff presence. The palate is somewhat light and the finish is somewhat tart, with a hoppy, almost Flemish sour quality. Interesting. More chocoff as it warms. DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 22, 2005 I had a pint of this beer with Larry Pitonka at Tangletown in Seattle. This beer pours a dark blown to light black color with a thick creamy head leaving some massive lacing on the glass. This beer had some serious nitro qualities to it and almost seemed like it was nitroed given the creamyness of it. The aroma was relatively weak with cocoa and smokeyness and undernotes of chocolate. The flavor is full bodied, with fairly smooth carbonation and a silky mouthfeel...nitro nitro! Heavy chocolate, vanilla and cocoa bean flavors. An interesting, almost dessert like beer...pleasant and warming. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 6, 2005 Bottle: Deep brown hue with an initial creamy tan head that fades but stuck around and produce good lace. The aroma has notes burnt and chocolate malts, earthy yeast esters, floral and grassy hops, coffee, and prune. The taste starts a touch tart and fruity sour with a heavy dry malty tone. The finish is smoky, chalky and mildly bitter. The feel is quite average, nothing bad or good. Overall it is a quaffable porter but nothing I have not had before. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 2, 2005 Pours a mostly opaque black with brownish edges and a dense very well-lacing pale tan head. Very lightly roasted malty aroma with notes of tart fruit and vegetables. Body starts with a mild light roasty malt sweetness, hinting at milk chocolate and lactose turning more tart and strawberry fruity toward the finish. Needs more body and roasted malts for a porter, but not too bad. fraternie (709), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 1, 2005 Very dark body, medium head. Mocha aroma, notes of chocolate in the nose. Malt is chocolatey with touches of coffee, but feels a bit thin. Smooth, moderately hoppy, roasty finish. Slight sweetness, lightly earthy. Finish does not last long, simple but enjoyable overall. heemer77 (4303), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 21, 2005 Large tan head. Body is a dark brown with a hitn of red at the edges. Aroma is baked bread and roasted coffee. Also hints of old socks. The taste is brown sugar with ints of apples. Also some fresh bread. This is a nice light porter. Older label, this is slightly oxidized. Coudl use a little more body and flavor. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 7, 2005 Pours an opaque black color with a frothy brown head. The aroma is rich and aromatic with acidic notes of roasted grain, coffee, espresso, dark chocolate, and burnt plums. The taste is at first smooth, then it becomes a bit sharp as the carbonation hits my tongue. This beer tastes quite dry and the full roasted flavors cause it to drink even drier. This taste has notes of coffee, burnt husks, and lots of roast malt acidity. This beer is quite light on the palate, yet it is packed with all sorts of flavor. This is a simple straight up porter with lots of flavor derivatives from roasted malt, this is quite well made.
I just started to pare this with a French raw milk bleu cheese, and it brings out a sweetness in the beer that was not there before, in fact the beer picks up quite a bit of chocolate notes that where not as apparent before.
