jbrus (4835), Delft, Netherlands May 8, 2009 Tap@Brewpub. Chocolate aroma. Opaque colour, yellowish head, good lace. Light sweet, light bitter, chocolate, coffee, hint of licorice, lightly roasted. Soft mouth feel. Pretty good yet still a standard Porter. AdamGott (190), Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA May 7, 2009 pours a very stout-like dark brown with brown cottony foam - aroma of cocoa and light hops - flavors of rich roasted malt with light hints of cocoa, brown sugar, coffee SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Apr 28, 2009 After being greeted by a huge rush of gas as the cap was lifted, I poured a huge head of tan that went from the top to the bottom of the glass. Slowly, it broke apart and made it’s way into a growing pool of clear brown brew at the bottom of the glass. The little bit of red that shows through at the extreme edges is the only hint that this isn’t totally opaque.
Chalky malt, cocoa powder aroma. Slight smoke.
The flavors come from the roast malt here. Heavy toast, some molasses, smoke, chocolate, coffee are all here.
Medium body. hellbilly (1502), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Apr 27, 2009 bomber by way of nbutler11...
pours the usual reddish/orange brown porter color... only darker. it is capped by a tan head which leaves behind a lot of webby lacing as it retreats back into the depths.
the nose is pretty faint but improves with some warmth. although it never gets robust and stinky it stays mild, well balanced and pleasant. aromas include a light sourness, toasty grain, chocolate, cream and rosemary.
the dry palate is smooth and roasty with flavors of chocolate, light molasses, faint smoke, a hint at coffee, leafy green hops, a pleasant sourness and a spicy earthy hoppy finish. coffee and green hoppiness lingers on the tongue for a bit.
the medium body has soft sudsy carbonation which takes up a lot of space in my mouth. the mouth feel is prickly and light from hops and roasty dryness.
it is not great but it is solid and flawless and easy drinking. 6.5/4/7.5/4/16/3.8
stchloe (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 24, 2009 Sweet porter with strong notes of chocolate malts. Not much bitterness, but it counters the malts nicely. Rich earthy aroma, and deep brown pour with a nice head. Its pretty to look at. Snojerk321 (1917), San Diego, California, USA Mar 21, 2009 22oz bottle from liquid solutions. Pours a deep, mostly clear amber color with a slight reddish hue. Head on this brew was 2 fingers thick with decent lacing. Nice subtle nose of chocolate, toffee, caramel and a touch of coffee. Nice to have a Porter where the coffee is not overwhelming. eyesolus (64), Mill Creek, Washington, USA Mar 16, 2009 Tap at Tangletown; very dark full body; thick lace; very balanced malt to hop with hints of smoke; enjoyable without being overpowering. (#41) GarrettB (494), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 5, 2009 Time for another Elysian! Drinking beers from this brewery, it seems, is as much a mark of local Seattle cultural integration as is drinking coffee that’s not Starbucks, and getting into cooking salmon. The Perseus Porter pours with a serpentine, spider-web foam, colored like cinnamon, and then turns ashen gray, as if it dies when the foam settles. And of course, the beer itself is extraordinarily dark. The aroma pushes up with fresh coffee, heavy cream, very dark chocolate, cobwebs and certainly sweeter than expect, but the flavor is somewhat watery and attenuated - like hot chocolate made with too little chocolate. It’ a pleasant porter, but simple, with a lot of coffee and chocolate notes but relatively unengaging.
