fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Jan 1, 2009 Bottle. Aroma of sweet malt, chocolate. Flavor the same. Where’s the roast? The coffee? Anything interesting? Pretty dull stuff. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Dec 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma of sweet roasted malt, light bitter chocolate notes. Flavor of sweet roasted malt, vegetal notes, cantelope, with a sweet finish. Meh, too sweet and not enough roastedness that I expect from a porter. 7/4/6/3/14 (3.4/5) goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA Dec 28, 2008 Poured a clear very deep brown with a red tint and beige head. Aroma of cocoa powder, roasted malt, and sweet caramel toffee malt. Malt flavor with some mild notes of dark cocoa. The roast is lighter in the flavor than the aroma. Light to medium bodied. Clean finish. cbeers21 (563), Miami, Florida, USA Nov 28, 2008 tap @ brewery. Good deep black pour with nice tan head. Toasty malts and burnt espress aromas are first noticed but finishes with a vanilla piney touch. The medium bodied brew is easily quaffable and shows a light fruit quality to combine with the chocolate and espresso notes. A good brew. notalush (2628), Denver, Colorado, USA Nov 18, 2008 Pours nearly black, with a frothy, well-sustained tan head - dry, roasted malt aroma, with a lot of cocoa - fizzy, full carbonation in the mouth - quite dry, bitter and roasty, with a touch of berry-like fruity character breaking through the notes of espresso and tobacco leaves - develops some vanilla/cream sweetness late, but remains balanced until the finish, where it gets a little strong, with long lingering chocolate flavors - decent. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA Oct 27, 2008 Thanks to my wife for bringing this one back from Seattle. Worth the trip. I liked this one.
Deep dark pour with a brown foamy head. I didn’t get much smoke in the aroma, but the maltiness had that chocolate/bitter coffee aroma and taste. Very little hops spice. Good beer Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Oct 21, 2008 Very dark brown pour with a medium to big tannish head. Typical porter flavors of chocolate, coffee and caramel and a little smokiness to offset. Interesting take on Porter, and pretty solid overall. Rciesla (3510), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Oct 17, 2008 Bottle from new beer. Pours dark brown black body with 2 finger rocky tan head. Caramel, roasty coffee, some light hop aroma. Minerals a bit of calcium and a hint of smoke. Decent porter.
