Commercial Description:
A wine-dark beer, extremely drinkable and of medium weight, named for the slayer of the Gorgon and rescuer of Andromeda. Perseus Porter is slightly smoky with black and chocolate malts; bittered with Columbus and finished with German Northern Brewer hops.

Disappointing. King of thin and one dimensional ... strong coffee notes in nose and taste, but not much else. Really disappointingly thin and watery. Uncharacteristically hoppy for a porter.

22 oz bottle

Elysian has caught my interest for a while. I was unable to pick up anything on a recent trip to Seattle but a friend sent me this. If it were local I might pick up a handful of their other releases because the price is reasonable. If you want to some affordably priced well made beer try to get your hands on this.

Aroma / Appearance - The darp brown body was fluid enough that it gave away this was not something complex. Iced coffee, malt, chocolate brownies and a general openness made it cohesive and solid. Without being outstanding it was good enough to get the job done.

Flavor / Palate - The mouthfeel was a little thinner that I expected which was a mild disappointment. Otherwise the coffee, malts and dark fruit combination resulted in a drinkable experience. The moist bitter finish wrapped up what I would summarize as a perfectly average porter.

Sample at the Pike Street location. Pours black with a thin and creamy beige head that has decent retention. Sheet of lacing on the glass. Chocolate and coffee aroma with some malt. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Some smoke is present too. The finish is roasty with a coffee aftertaste. Above average all around.

Bottle... Poured black with a huge, frothy, light brown head, nice lacing. Aroma of roasted barley-malt and faint aromatic cocoa and maybe tea leaves. Pretty well carbonated which may be distracting. Flavors of chocolate-malt with some bitter-ing hops and a finish of coffee beans. This is exceptionally tasty.

My Bottom Line:
Roasted malts relax into molasses, as blueberry-like fruitiness gently accosts this straightforward, spritzy Porter.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the brown-sleeved black.
-That roastiness seems to be the beer’s main flavor feature.
-The finish isn’t based on bitterness, mainly focusing on the roast and molasses sweetness.
-The overall result is clean and very drinkable.

Bottle. Thx Stephen!

(bottle thanks Skyview!) Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Aroma of dark chocolate, cocoa, and roasted malt. Taste is pretty much the same as the aroma, with some coffee in there too. A decent beer, but it has a pretty thin mouthfeel.

[bottle] shared by skyview. Pours brown with a large off white head. Sweet chocolate aroma. Highly carbonated, rocky mouthfeel. Flavor is roasty, chocolatey, and sweet.
