COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A wine-dark beer, extremely drinkable and of medium weight, named for the slayer of the Gorgon and rescuer of Andromeda. Perseus Porter is slightly smoky with black and chocolate malts; bittered with Columbus and finished with German Northern Brewer hops.

2006 Vintage... Elysian Perseus Porter pours a dark brown color with a foamy tan head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is weak milk chocolate. Roasted malt and coffee are most noteworthy in the flavor when this beer is at colder temperatures. Once it comes up in teperature somewhat, the aroma becomes more more like semi-sweet chcolate and the flavor shifts a a dark chocolate and cocoa. The finish is robust and roasty with notes of black coffee and blackened/burnt malt. The palate is soft, smooth, and mellow, but the carbonation level seems like a bit too much for this beer at times. This is good, but seems somewhat weak in aroma and flavor at colder temperatures. However, once it warms it really seems to open up and the aroma becomes more rich and the flavor deepens a little. Don’t let it warm up too much though because then it seems to get a little bit yeasty and much more dry... This was the second beer from Elysian Brewing that I have tasted and I am very impressed with their beers (especially at the very reasonable price that they go for!). Like "The Immortal IPA", this beer is well balanced, flavorful, easy to drink, and very enjoyable overall... 22 oz bottle (5.4% ABV) from first trade with bitbucket in November 2006. Thanks Bob!

Tap at Paradiso Georgetown. The pour is clear deep ruby looking near black in the glass with a medium, tan head leaving impressive sticky, webby lace. Nose is savory with small beef broth, heavy chocolate milk. Nothing too obvious but certainly not bad. Taste is richer than expected for 5.4% with chocolate ice cream and vanilla along with some creamy slickness in the finish like cream topped real yogurt. Thin palate overall.

I think it’s time Elysian hired a new graphic designer.

fiulijn (10421) - Como, ITALY - AUG 2, 2011
Draught at St. Augustine, Vancouver
Black color; creamy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, some yeast. The mouthfeel is quite smooth, with strong flavor of heavily roasted malts, but also a delicate fruity vein to provide some balance and complexity; the bitterness is quite strong, suspected mostly from the roasted malt; the late final gets a bit ashy.
Pleasant.

Dark opaque black color, steady beige head, lots of lace. Coffeish, toasted aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Smooth palate. Sweetish milk chocolaty flavor, lingering roasted coffee in the aftertaste. Well-brewed porter.

A great representation of a porter. The pour is a beautiful brown. Brown sugar and roasted / caramel malts. A nice chocolate dry flavor. A nice medium body. Good.

On draft at elysian. Black with dark tan head. Slightly thick mouth but malt profile really shines, highlighted but not dominated by roasted malts. Discernable hop character for a porter.
