4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 7, 2003The beer as it sets in my glass, black-a-vised, the head is monumental in size, light chocolate in color and frothy in texture, as the head disappears, a thick coating of lace forms on the glass. Nose is roasted and toasted grains, sweet, crisp and fresh, a real treat for the senses, start is thickly malt and somewhat sweet, top is middling and rich in feel to the palate. Finish is moderately acidic, the hops pronounced in their spicy bite, bitter chocolate dry aftertaste, a nice porter that is certainly worthy a try for the lovers of the “Dark” side.

Bomber. Notes from tasting session. Mild chocolate nose. A bit of chocolate on mid-palate. Some roast, burnt flavors grow on the finish and lasts. Very smooth and well balanced stuff.

Light and tasty, very easy drinking for a porter. Dark brown with a small head. Nice malty aroma with some caramel and chocolate. Flavor follows suit. Almost a lawn mower porter.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 NikkTwist (884) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 15, 2012
UPDATED: SEP 22, 2012 Draft at the Khyber. Poured a very dark red brown that was opaque except under bright light. Frothy tan head. Nice dark malt character without being overly sweet. Dark chocolate. Charcoal. Surprisingly creamy texture though there are some nice dark pops on the tongue at the finish.

650ml bomber pours a dark brown almost black color with a finger and a half of light beige head that leaves some good lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted grains with chocolate and coffee and a hint of smoke. Taste is roasted grain and hop bitterness with hints of coffee and a chocolate malty sweetness. Medium bodied with some modest carbonation. A little on the bitter side for the style, but still quite a good brew which I thoroughly enjoyed tasting.

Draft at the brewpub in Seattle.
Pours a very dark brown color that’s completely opaque with a two finger light beige head that very slowly fades into a thick lasting ring. Streaks and spots of lace left behind.
Slightly smokey, deeply roasted dark malt aroma with hints of sweeter malts for balance. Coffee bean, dark chocolate, coffee bean, smoked meats and oatmeal countered by sweeter chocolate, toffee and caramel. I’m picking up some faint earthy hops as well.
Lighter bodied than expected with a slightly smokey flavor. Decent roasted malt presence with dark chocolate and coffee bean along with toffee and oatmeal. Sweet and robust notes balancing each other out with some earthy piny hops toward the finish. Pretty tasty but a bit light for my preference.
