I first had this beer at the elysian itself and loved it, but when I found it in a 22 at the local mart it did not impress me. In the bottle it’s more bitter and has less fullness.

On tap. Pours a very dark brown with light foamy head. Aromas of nuts and dried roasted malts. Flavours of dried coffee, oily dark fruit, grass, and roasted malts. Nice enough but nothing special.

On tap at St Augustine’s in Vancouver. A black beer with a bit of tan head. Fruity and malty on the nose. A passable rather thin porter. It seems the intent was to create a lighter porter, but this comes off as weak. 3.3.

Chocolate, some nuttiness, and a nice roasted character. Weak body. Tried this at the DC beerfest with Jess, Mark, and Matt in 2014.

(Draught at brewpub) clear plum/brown, fine tan bubbles. Nose of nuts and their shells, mint, raisins and light English hops. Taste is nutty, cream lightly roasted, with a touch of butter. Very lightly bitter, more herbal than anything else, light nutty finish.

A little watery on the palate. Some roast and a little chocolate without being huge on anything. Finishes with light bitterness. Soft overall feel. Nothing memorable. Tap at DC Beer festival.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2014 Dark brown, chocolate nose. Creamy palate with big chocolate flavor throughout. Med bodied and chocolate dominates this brew. Nice body and flavor throughout and finish is dry. Description says it has a smoky flavor as well, but I don?t get it...just cocoa. Orig rate 11/26/13..3.0. Had off draft at field house location. Creamy mouthfeel, mostly dark slight roast malt character. Has a sweet dark chocolate aspect. Medium full bodied, finish has a drying sensation. Slight cream like undertones. Pronounced hop bitterness and creamy chocolate/coffee flavors persist. This beer is very fresh tasting, awesome this go round.
