GABF. Hazy yellow pour. Odd. Lots of black pepper, some christmas tree and hops. Nothing blends too well in this. Weird brew.

Draft at GABF. What the hell is this? Nose is menthol and peppers, cloves. Really strange nose. On tasting, it tastes like toothpaste. I canít get past the chloroseptic and peppermint. did they dry Newport this? No. Way.

At the brewery in Seattle. Heavy pepper aroma with pine scented hops, golden pour light head. Flavor of citrus, pepper and pi e. Scary thought but it mixes well

Probably my favorite of the Elysian beers I had over two nights in Seattle (at both brewpub locations). Lovely fresh flavors, with a vigorous but restrained pepper, warmed with sweetness from the other side of the spectrum. Lighter orange color. Attractive at multiple levels. (on tap at brewpub)

Tap at Stags Head. pours golden brown with beige head. nose is of citrus and piney hops. tastes of pepper, hoppy, cloves, yeast, herbal, and bread. reminded me more of ipa than saison.

Draft at the pike street. Pours a cloudy burnished medium amber with a loose white head that doesnt really stick around. Little bit of stringy lace. Hugely phenolic peppery nose, almost a little varnishy. Hesitate to rate...this seems a little farther down the yeasty aromatics path than they might have intended to travel. Big white pepper and pink peppercorn nose. Creamy mexium body with lively carb. Some pink grapefruit, caramel, and lots of peppery phenols on the mid palate. Bring this a little bit back toward balanced and its something special. Right now it comes across as a brawny imperialized treatment of the style.

Draft at Teresaís. Pours honey blonde golden with a perfectly white, fluffy head. Nose is powerful and outstanding. Aroma of caramel, sweet butter, vanilla, floral bouquet, slight notes of hops and earth. Body is sort of weak with a slippery, odd mouthfeel. Not exactly what I expected after drinking so many Belgian saisons. Perhaps Iím just not used to the style. Overall a decent brew, but definitely not my favorite of the style.

On tap at Elysian Fields. Pours an orange tan with beige head and some lace. When the waitress put the glass down, people sitting a few spots down the table turned and said they could smell the beer. It has a lovely peppery smell infused with caramel. Alas the taste doesnít quite live up to the smell, but the caramel and earthy peppery tastes do make it drinkable and definitely one to try.

Tap at BT. Pours a light golden with low carbonation and almost no head. Aroma is spicy dull black pepper, earth, dirty, cured salted pork fat, bacony- phenolic and spicy Belgian yeast- light cracker malts. Flavor is more pepper, almost like a danish black pepper pork belly rollup- dry, spicy orange lemon grass, earthy leather light astringent. Ok but a bit too earthy with pepper.
