(Draft) Sampled at GCBF 2009 in Victoria on September 9, 2009. Cedar/juniper resin, peppery. Pretty wild stuff. Resin in the after palate. Bready. A cross hash of everything. Really interesting. And I laughed pretty hard when my non-geek friends dumped this and said it was undrinkable... oh so wrong. I could have drank this all day. 10/4/8/4/18

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
GABF2009 - one of the better saisons of the evening - a lovely beer with tons of aromatic spices and a zesty, peppery finish - light, crisp, effervescent, just like I like my saisons - dry, crackery maltiness - soft herbal notes that work really well with those dry malts - just the right amount of peppery heat in the finish to make things interesting - very nice.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Deep amber pour. The nose is lightly spicy with a bit of fresh malt and a kiss of black pepper as well. Fairly lean with a nice crackery maltiness and a touch of flinty hoppiness. A lightly wild nose with a fairly floral component as well. There is an almost bretty component underneath the spiciness. Hops are here and show a kiss of citrus and a bit of herbal character. Nice and fresh and lightly floral. Not really a saison, but it’s a nice spiced Belgian ale.

On tap at the Blind Tiger - NYC. Pours a very cloudy peachy orange, with a fluffy straw-white head. Unique herbal aroma. Wow. That peppercorn is strong. Nice floral, herbal character coming off. Super fresh. Flavor is a lesser version of the aroma. Crisp, orangey, and spiced. Aromatic. Nice. Good balance of the yeast character and some sweet malts. A delicious beer. Foamy. Solid, with unique and delicious character from the pepper corn. Very nice.

Tap. Apricot colored pour, little carbonation and aroma was nothing more than refreshing fresh ground pepper. Taste was yeasty, malty and very herbal; and of course more pepper all the way through to the finish. Out of all the beers I tasted from Elysian, I have to say this was probably my favorite. I wished I could have figured an easy way to get a growler of this back on the plane.
