Beer and coffee are Seattle siblings, jealously dividing the day. Split Shot combines the talents of Elysian’s brewers with a pound per barrel of cold-infused, Seattle-produced Lighthouse coffee. It’ll open your eyes to a delicious new beer. Split Shot is the official beer of 2012 Seattle Beer Week.

Dark brown color. Light brown head. Massive espresso notes in the nose to the degree that malt character is suppressed. Not necessarily a bad thing IMO. Super smooth mouth that has ton of espresso, caramel and roasted malt notes. Slightly acidic. Super quaffable. Lingering espresso finish. Excellent.

Pours black with a brown head. Aroma is malt, chocolate, coffee, roasty and some hops. Taste is medium sweet leading to a roasty and sweetish finish. Not bad.

AROMA: coffee, roasty, earthy, APPEARANCE: black, minimal head, TASTE: medium bitterness, PALATE: medium body, fizzy, bitter finish, OVERALL: As an avid coffee and a n avid beer drinker, I think this really brings about the best of both worlds. Its got the bitterness of a good cup of coffee, but the smooth fizzyness of a good beer. I think this is my favorite coffee stout that I have tasted.

Pours dark chocolate with a tobacco stained head. First pass at aroma was a bit sour, but as it warmed, there are notes of coffee, toffee and chocolate. The flavor is a lovely blend of coffee, chocolate, molasses and malt with a hint of a bite to finish. The palette is lighter than expected. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at MKT. Right off the bat I dig this. Espresso, hazelnut, perfect sweetness, milkish, medium roast, light fruit, smooth chocolate, creamy feel and bitterness that you forget about. Quick review might not do this justice.

Pours dark black with creamy tan head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, licorice root, vanilla. Taste is massively coffee all around, as if the grounds were in your mouth. Chocolate and root beer in the middle of the mouth, with vanilla and hop finish. This is good, but for a stout with lactose, it definitely lacks a velvety thick mouthfeel, and is a bit light on the booziness.

Tap. Dark cola pour with a nice off white head. Coffee, chocolate, oat, raisin, licorise. Stronger than expected carbonation making this refreshing. Medium body. Coffee is there but is more milk coffee. Nice effort

Pours crystal clear (flashlight confirmed) ruby brown with one fat finger of medium dense beige head diminishing quickly to a thin skim, moderate lacing. (4/5) Nose is strong coffee, lactose sweet, mild dark roasty malt, light dark fruit. (8/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Medium body tending a little to watery, slightly creamy texture, low carbonation, mildly bitter finish. (3/5) Not a bad coffee milk stout, but fairly pedestrian. Definitely smells better than it tastes, and clearly gets a lot of that smell from the added espresso, instead of from the grain bill. Despite the darkness and the presence of some roasted malts, I’m somewhat surprisingly getting essentially no chocolate at all, and the body tends to the thin and watery. I don’t say this often, but it could actually use a little more sweetness - the “milk” (lactose) sweetness usually brings more creaminess, and that might help the slightly watery body. On the up side, neither the coffee nor the dark malt comes through as harsh. Pleasant, without being all that exciting. (14/20)
