Beer and coffee are Seattle siblings, jealously dividing the day. Split Shot combines the talents of Elysianís brewers with a pound per barrel of cold-infused, Seattle-produced Lighthouse coffee. Itíll open your eyes to a delicious new beer. Split Shot is the official beer of 2012 Seattle Beer Week.

It. Was Good. Was hoping for a little more something. Maybe something creamier. Oh well.. Not bad

Pours dark with a small mocha colored head. The head dissipates quickly leaving an aroma of coffee and roasted grains. The overwhelming flavor is coffee, but the beer is also slightly sweet. This beer is slightly more carbonated in the mouth than I would expect for a milk stout.

Bottle: Deep russet brown with an initial huge frothy beige head, nice lace. Nice mocha covered espresso bean aroma with a touch of char, vanilla bean and pipe tobacco. The taste is actually balanced for a sweet stout due in part by the lactose twang and roast. A touch sugary towards the finish. Smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel. This is well done coffee stout that is not all coffee. Letís see the bean counters at InBev/AB screw this up.

Very dark red with dissipating tan head. Aroma of vanilla, cream soda, and coffee. Tastes very much like biting into a chocolate covered coffee bean. Syrupy palate and heavy bodied.

12oz bottle. Clear dark brown with a full dense light mocha head. Fairly light and a little sweet and a easy dark beer.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark, opaque brown. Aroma is coffee and lots of it up front with dark roastiness, sweet and chocolate. Taste is rich, roasts goodness. Overall this tastes like a mocha with whipped cream topping. I'll drink again for sure.

Aroma: Slightly roasted, no strong aromas, disappointingly bland. Appearance: Jet black, viscous pour (5-star). Creamy, one finger head that disappeared slowly. Taste: Roasted flavors. Disappointed at the lack of coffee flavor. Would have loved to taste chocolate. Smooth and lighter than the viscous pour advertised. Palate: Slightly sour fruit on the front end. Dry, astringent draw of black coffee on the back. Bitter. Chocolate comes in very, very late; yeah, put your beer down for 2-3 minutes and wait for it. Overall: I poured this 12 oz. bottle into a glass I like to drink beer in. I was encouraged by the pretty saleswoman at Quench in Silver Spring I would love this beer if I loved coffee. I guess I didnít really love coffee as much as I thought I did. This beer is highly regarded and I solidly disagree. It is unbalanced and not well rounded. RateBeer member N3lson summed it best, "I just was not impressed with this highly rated stout.". #respectbeerbrethren

Drank from a pint glass poured from a twelve ounce bottle at the Beerhive in Pittsburgh. No strong aromas, very bland. Pours jetblack with zero head. I just was not impressed with this highly rated stout.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2015 Cracked the cap and experienced the whole beer in seconds. Wow. Dark espresso capped with mocha and backed by a mocha, mocha. Phenomenal. The liquid is dark roast, the head caps it with a rootbeerfloat-ish rocky foam, full of aroma. The body is median, but thick, rich and creamy. The flavor is full of coffee bean; also quite rich; a bottomless experience in roasted flavor. French roast is close, but this has so much more complexity, depth without being overbearing. The chocolates in the malts are apparent in the brew, but not heavy-handed; the sweet is there, but not sweet at all. The coffee is dark and rich, but not an experience that would scare off a milk and creamer sap. I love this. The carbonation, texture, and finish are just right for this. Not too much and not too little of anything. I might even give up that this is dessert...but without the need for ice cream ala carte. The temperature is changing nothing...itís awesome all around. I have this available as a six pack at my local grocery...Iíll be buying at least another. Yum!!
