Beer and coffee are Seattle siblings, jealously dividing the day. Split Shot combines the talents of Elysian’s brewers with a pound per barrel of cold-infused, Seattle-produced Lighthouse coffee. It’ll open your eyes to a delicious new beer. Split Shot is the official beer of 2012 Seattle Beer Week.

Rich deep dark brown body with a lighter brown bottom and a thick, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, caramel, toffee and hints of oats. Medium-bodied; Rich deep coffee flavours throughout with a bit of nuts, earth, caramel and a lot of bitterness at the end, especially. Aftertaste shows a lot of oatmeal, nuts, earth and caramel with the coffee flavours really hitting hard along with milk and lactic qualities. Overall, a nice beer that shows quite a bit of bitterness and some solid flavours, but not smooth nor entirely sweet. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods (I Street - Foggy Bottom) in Washington, DC on 10-January-2014 for US$2.49 sampled at home here in Washington on 21-February-2014.

2/21/14 3.29 bottle from CBO. Dark dark brown with barely any head. I would've sworn it was a slightly carbonated sweet coffee. No alcohol whatsoever. Would've liked it to be a lil thicker on the mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thanks to Santa for sending this wonderful release. A sweet stout that lives up to its billing, this reminds me that there is much more to Seattle than just a handful of well known names, I know the market is crowded but if Elysian were ever to expand I would recommend it to all my friends.

Aroma / Appearance - A creamy deep body is the color of melted bakers chocolate. A tan head is foamy and choppy. Milk chocolate, espresso, and dry malts stick like some sort of chilled coffee drink that you open after a big meal.

Flavor / Palate - Creamy bittersweet chocolate sticks in the throat. Dark roasted coffee carries towards an excellent finish. Bitter like coffee beans which have been slightly overdone it hangs in the top of the throat. It is almost like drinking an espresso minus the blast of caffeine. I should revisit more sweet stouts this year.

Sweet cocoa nose, hints of coffee. Dark pour, one finger of light caramel foam. Sweet and slightly thin, it tastes of dark chocolate and a touch of coffee. Slight bitter finish.

22 oz bomber served in pint glass. Pours heavy viscous brown with thick mocha head. Aroma is sweet creamy milk chocolate malt. Taste is dark roasty thin chocolate malt with a punchy bitter finish that quickly fades to creamy, sweet, and smooth. Notable hops, along with bit of espresso on the finish. Plenty of chocolate, not that much coffee. Some great flavors here, but doesn’t quite all meld together.

On nitro tap at Darby's. Pours a deep dark brown, with a thick creamy cap. Aroma is coffee forward, followed by milk chocolate. Taste is malt forward, with a superb bitter balance. Creamy and low carbonation mouthfeel. Lacto forward. Very late and low dryness finish.

(bottle) The aroma is well roasted coffee, cocoa, lactose and mild malt. Deep brown complexion with persistent tan head and consistent glass lacing with each sip. The flavor is a perfect blend of coffee, mocha and malt. Creamy palate. Long and rich finish. This beer is excellent.
