3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
650 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, poorly retained, beige head, over a brownish black (SRM 40) body.........nose is coffee, lighter chocolate, cocoa, hints of toffee......taste is strong coffee, light cocoa, mild vanilla, hints of sweetness, finishing with a strong coffee bitterness........mouth feel light of medium, carbonation adds a foamy fizziness. This beer is lower in complexity of both aroma and flavor than many. Additionally it is lighter in mouth feel (where was the lactose?)and looks like a cup of cold carbonated coffee in the glass. I was disappointed. BJCP 7/2/12/3/6

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 8, 2013 Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilburs Foco. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a cream brown head. Slightly burnt, roasty coffee, a bit grainy, dark milk chocolate, light vanilla, roasty aroma. Milky, fairly sweet, milk chocolate flavor thatís fairly well balanced the bitterness and roastiness of the coffee. Body is a bit thin and the sweetness and bitterness both are a bit over the top, but not bad.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured into a pint glass.
3.0 A: Black color. About one finger of tan, frothy, short-lived head.
4.5 S: Deep roastiness without any burntness. Abundant lactose and coffee. A touch of vanilla. Everything comes together in a wonderful harmony.
3.5 T: Coffee is dominant in the taste. The lactose isnít as strong as Iíd like and the vanilla is no longer detectable. Still, itís tasty. Dry roastiness.
2.5 M: Mouthfeel on this isnít too great. It feels more like coffee than a milk stout. Lighter medium body. Not creamy at all. Smooth though.
3.0 D: Normally Iíd give this a 3.5, but the nose was borderline and the mouthfeel was weak.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at the brewpub in Seattle.
Pours a dark brown, almost black color thatís nearly opaque with faint chocolate brown edges and a two finger beige head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. †Streaks of lace left behind.
Robust roasted malt aroma thatís countered by sweeter malt notes and lactic sugar. †Strong roasted coffee presence but not burnt or acrid smelling. Hints of dark and milk chocolate, toffee and oatmeal give off complexity and the lactic sugar provides some sweetness/creaminess.
On the fuller end of medium bodied with a robust, deeply roasted coffee flavor thatís countered by sweeter malts. †Not acrid or overly roasted with subtle smokiness, espresso, dark chocolate and oatmeal. †This is countered by lighter chocolate, toffee and hazelnut as well as some lactic cream. †Still a heavy coffee flavor but well balanced and enjoyable.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle:   Black, deep cola hued highlights, thin to moderate light beige head, spotty lacing.   Dark chocolate and coffee aroma.   Smells rather nice.   Not as sweet or milky as I expected, moderate roastiness, some chocolate and coffee but not as much as the nose suggested.   Smooth, yet body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Lingering roasted malts, dark chocolate, carob, and coffee.   Decent, better nose than anything else.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Draught at St. Augustineís, Vancouver, as Elysian Slipshot Milk Stout
Black color; the head has short retention. There is a light coffee aroma; it reminds me of the Alpine grolla coffee. The coffee flavor is not pleasant, at least in this light bodied and light souled beer, with dry and weak mouthfeel, some roasted malt, coffee grounds, ordinary bitterness.
