Beer and coffee are Seattle siblings, jealously dividing the day. Split Shot combines the talents of Elysian’s brewers with a pound per barrel of cold-infused, Seattle-produced Lighthouse coffee. It’ll open your eyes to a delicious new beer. Split Shot is the official beer of 2012 Seattle Beer Week.

Bottle. Black pour with tan head. Chocolate, roasted, sweet malt tones. Aromas and flavors, are mild at a cold temperature, come out a bit as it warms up.

Bottle. Pours a clear black body under a large foamy beige head that took some time before it settled down. The nose is a mix of citrusy espresso coffee and roasted barley. The flavor is more dominated by the roasted malt than the coffee. I was actually hoping for a bit more coffee flavor than what I’m getting here. I suppose some would call it balanced, but when I have a coffee beer, I want lots of coffee! Slightly sweet on the finish with some lingering burnt notes. Lighter bodied than I’d prefer as well with fizzy lively carbonation. Decent enough, but I think it could stand for a beefed up coffee presence.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Shop Rite, 5/8/14

Aroma: The nose is coffee mostly, mid-sweet, with hints of chocolate and earth
Appearance: A dark brown color with a lasting fizz of beige-brown head and mid-heavy lace
Flavor: The taste is sweetened coffee up-front, with an earthy hop bitterness later on
Palate: The body is light-medium, and it very easy drinking despite a plus carbonation
Overall Impression: This is a solid, coffee-forward beer. It’s lighter in body than I expected, but it doesn’t come off thin or watery. If you like your coffee on the sweeter side, I can’t really see any reason why you wouldn’t enjoy this beer, at least a little.

Pours mostly black with some light head and minimal lacing. Nose is coffee and milk chocolate. Notes of chocolate and light espresso, dark fruit. Taste medium sweet and medium bitter. Creamy in the mouth with low carbonation.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours dark brown with slight haze and a beige head to it. Nose is very soy like - nutty, sweet, milky with mild coffee and vanilla notes. Taste is very creamy and milk like but I wouldn’t say it is completely full bodied - probably finishes a little light to be honest. What is there though is pleasing - nuts, honey, vanilla, mildly bitter coffee. A little sweet. Not a bad beer by any stretch

Sampled at Schlafly’s Repeal of Prohibition festival 2014 - Pours dark brown with a beige head. The aroma has cream, vanilla, smooth roast, coffee and chocolate. It has a medium body with a nice rough feel and prickly carbonation. The flavor begins with lots of roast, lots of coffee, dark chocolate and some earthy hops. The finish has woodiness, more coffee and light milkiness.

Bottle. Had this with a cigar, so I can't speak very accurately to the palate, but it felt a little thin. Chocolate, coffee, a little cream and cherry notes.

[Bottle (12oz)] Pours a very dark reddish-brown with an average size lasting frothy tan head. Some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, coffee, lactic notes and light hops. Definitely coffee first though. Flavour of roasted malt, coffee and cream along with some light hops -- a bit too lactic for me. Average bodied. Good but didn’t do much for me for some reason.

Draught at Redbones, 3/22/14
Dark brown body shows medium-low clarity and a medium-sized light beige head with medium-low retention.
Salted caramel mixes with vanilla espresso in the nose and provides a fairly unique aroma for this now ubiquitous and mostly redundant style. Definite malt sweetness is there, adding more honey and vanilla, while some dry, lightly acidic roastiness hangs on the end, giving a pretty nice balance to the nose, overall.
Dry, roasted coffee flavors abound throughout a nicely attenuated body that has engaging but very light carbonation, creating a slick, somewhat watery texture. Liquorous-like vanilla and prunes are enjoyable, while an almost maple-like note lingers on the end, along with the reasonably reserved amount of coffee flavor. Good stuff, not just another cookie-cutter coffee stout/porter.

Poured dark brown with a tan head. The aroma instant roast coffee/espresso with slight biscuit notes. Nice light carb gives a really nice mouth feel. Taste is a sweet roast and mild bitterness. Great breakfast beer!
