RBSG 2016 grand tasting. Pale, with IPA aromas. First is is what else? IPA. But hey, I see itís supposed to be an APA. Iíd say we are definately in the IPA territory fer sure. Ubiquitous IPA effects all round. Terribly on style for an IPA, if it was one. Long bitter chewing on green greapefruit rinds mixed with pine tar and spruce needles finish. Canít really identify the blood orange in this.

Beershine (5219) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - APR 19, 2014
Bottle from Legacy. Hazy, pretty much opaque soft orange color. The aroma is hop-forward, somewhat chewy and actually smells stronger than it is, but not in a bad way. The body is deceptive, it is fairly big, but highly drinkable. The best thing about this beer is its level of refinement. The fruit component is understated, adding nuance to a solid base beer rather than becoming an overly fruited gimmick. In fact, if I didnít know there was orange here, I would not detect it. Itís more like, oh, thatís where that balancing bit of acidity comes from. Solid malt profile, mainly pales, with briskly hopped. As with most Elysian beers, accessible and sophisticated at the same time.

On tap at Brewski 030814. Very cloudy in the glass with a tiny head that is there one minute and gone the next. More grapefruit than blood orange in the flavour but it is still quite tasty.

Growler. Pours slightly hazy golden-amber with a thick eggshell head. Aroma offers citrus, hoppy and malty notes. Flavor delivers plenty of hops and orange character, almost more IPA than PA, while fresh malt plays a supporting role. Mouthfeel features typical body and fizz. Good for taking the edge off a sweltering day - and weíre going to have plenty of those because climate change is REAL!

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with creamy off-white head. Aroma is cereal and biscuit malts, orange, floral hops, and light toast. Flavor is balanced dry, bready malts and light hop bitterness with some light fruit esters and a touch of spice; dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

The acidity from the blood orange is fairly noticable and makes for an unusual mouthfeel. Fairly heavy malty mouth. Decent bitterness. Nice stuff.

Dark amber, reflects the blood orange. Soft white head and lace rings. Flavour has lots of citrus like biting an orange. Some hoppiness.
