Bottle, black beer, walnut colored head, great lace. Aroma dusty toasted barley, molasses, a little wet dog. Taste is toasted barley, cookies, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, cola, rootbeer, oak, and a hint of spice. Palate is smooth, but not thick or syrupy at all. Carbonation moderate. Sweet in the beginning, finish is roasty and dry, and even a bit hoppy. A nice, drinkable impy.

Bottle from Albertsons. Pours out an inky black with a ruby-tinged beige airy head. Initial aroma is pure stout, some chocolate, some burnt toast. Taste is relatively smooth, oak aging apparent towards the finish. More chocolate in the taste, mild, dry bitterness.

651 ml. bottle. Vintage 2015. 9.2% ABV per the label. Pours a thick, gradually deminishing, beige head, with some lacing, over a clear dark brown (SRM 35) body......nose is roasted malts, with coffee, hints of plum, raisin, vanilla from the oak, minimal herbal hops, no esters.....taste is mildly sweet, with plum, raisin from the malts, coffee, light chocolate from the roasted malts, minimal esters, slight vanilla from the wood, moderate hop, roasted malt, lingering bitterness.......mouth feel, body heavy of medium, sticky, alcohol warmth present, moderate astringency, carbonation adds slight acid. This beer has no major flaws. The roasted malts are quite forward, and a bit dominant in this beer. More caramel/crystal malts would add to the malty complexity, and perhaps a change in yeast would increase some of the more complex ester notes, which are not present. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7

Pours a deep thick brown color with a nice frothy head that hangs tough as the beer settles into the glass. Aroma of raisins, dark fruit, and roast malt. A hint of alcohol in the aroma as well, but not in a bad way. Flavor of slightly bitter chocolate, coffee but with some sweetness as well. Maybe some smoke in the aftertaste too. The flavor is there, but it isn’t as powerful as I would have guessed from the aroma. Smooth and fairly clean in the mouth. Delicious beer but probably not up there with a Yeti or something like that.

Bomber. Ocean depths black in appearance with a sudsy layer of light brown foam. Notes of bittersweet chocolate, dark fruits, coffee and roasted malt in the aroma. Flavor of roast malt, dark chocolate and toffee upfront with a bit of vanilla and licorice around the edges. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with low carbonation and more charred malt and chocolate in the finish. Judge Dredd would approve.

Pours a dark brown color with a roasted malt aroma. Taste is a little sugar sweet, roasted coco, and a bit of dark rye. The oak flavor was very evident in the aftertaste, leaving a decent burn after the swallow.

22 picked up at the COOP for an okay $10ish.. Poured into my small Teku and a 1" dark brown head rises up and drops back pretty quickly, black brew is expected and looks a little thin. Roasty with big oak.. Dry with too much char that blows out most any other RIS elements, could really use some sweetness or residual maltiness to bring things back into more drinkable realm... Waaay too dry. The bones of a decent stout are there, but this is not good by any stretch.

Bomber. Pours a jet black color with a medium white head. A big milky chocolate nose. The flavor is more chocolate, sugary, smooth fluffy palate, light oak. Works very well. Smooth. Light metal in the finish.
