Comes out of the bottle black & viscous. Has that sour tang, then milk chocolate, leather, alcohol. Medium but thick head. Here’s the burnt flavor, concord grape juice, alcohol, brown sugar, thick on the tongue & screeching in the mouth. Alcohol coffee finish.

Tap at Fujiyama. Pitch black with lace. Nose is oak, lots of chocolate, some soy and licorice, coffee. Nicely fruity flavor comes as a bit of a surprise, berries, raisins, cocoa, oak, vanilla. Good body. Like it.

On tap at Fujiyama’s 1st Anniversary. The dread 600 yen at Fujiyama’s event. Black with red highlights. Savoury chocolate with vanilla and mild tannic notes. Dark chocolate, smoke, oak, vanilla and a bitter tannic quality. Good stuff and fairly easy drinking.

Pours a thick, espresso black ale and a toast colored head that laces so nicely. Layered aroma full of coffee, rich caramel, chocolate, charred wood and brown sugar. Some tannin on the palate. Sip after sip this stout reveals flavors of bitter espresso, dark chocolate, molasses, alcohol, peaty earth and background notes of piney hops. Roasty lingering finish.

Bottle from super deli mart. Extremely chocolatly head with about two fingers foam. Lots of coffee and simi sweet chocolate and maybe some slight heat on the backend. The oak staves are really not present and don’t factor into this beer.

Bottle:   Pitch black, moderate to large frothy dark beige head, nice lacing.   Sweet roasted malts and cocoa on the nose.   Smooth right up front, a bit of the barrel aging.   Semi-sweet, a bit chalky and even dry.   Low hop bitterness, moderate maltiness, with a bit of that cocoa bringing up the rear.   Oak comes out more as it warms.   Very smooth but not too rich.   Roasty sweetness, dry, chalky with lots of cocoa and oak bringing up the back.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Super easy to drink.   Soft hops, cocoa, and oak linger.   Pretty good and easy to drink Imperial Stout. &nbps Only wished it were a little heavier.

Split a bomber. Opaque black pour, thin frothy tan head, lots of lace. Nose of roasted malt, molasses, oaky vanilla, coffee. Taste is of course malt forward, same as aroma, leads to a dark chocolate bitter finish. Heavy body with min carbonation. Nice sipper.

2015 bomber (9.2%) from Smoker Friendly. A bargain at $2.49. Black in color with a small tan head. Roasty malted nose. Some sweetness with a bit of hoppiness. Some black licorice as well. A little touch of chocolate is noticeable. Rich sweet and roasty up front. Bitter coffee with a little bit of a burnt quality. Nice roasted coffee in the finish. Some alcohol is present. Not really sure I taste any oak. Really rich impy stout nonetheless.

pretty straight forward quality stout - roasted malts, perhaps a touch of berries - not sure if that’s the wood or the malt talking. Slightly hoppy and bitter, but well balanced. Quaffable for nearly 10%

Bottle, black beer, walnut colored head, great lace. Aroma dusty toasted barley, molasses, a little wet dog. Taste is toasted barley, cookies, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, cola, rootbeer, oak, and a hint of spice. Palate is smooth, but not thick or syrupy at all. Carbonation moderate. Sweet in the beginning, finish is roasty and dry, and even a bit hoppy. A nice, drinkable impy.
