COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Gourdfather is a pumpkin barleywine you can’t refuse, mellowing with age but still reminding you who’s boss. A veritable pushcart of malt bill brings pale, Munich, Cara-hell, Cara-vienne, C-15 crystal and pumpkin seeds up against a rival neighborhood armed with Magnum hops. At 23.4 Plato starting gravity and 11.2% alcohol it’ll keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

2012 vintage Pours hazy orange no head. Smell fruity pumpkin and red fruit. Taste mashy gourd, bit of veggies, sweet with a bit of booze on the tail. Medium body. I really like this one.

Dark brown in color, clear with a thin head. Deep rich aroma and flavors. Rich malts and alcohol flavors light pumpkin lingering. Big tasty beer.

On tap at The Copper Hog, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small off-white head. Aroma of pumpkin spices and toffee / caramel malts. Flavour blends the best of both worlds, with notes of pumpkin spicing, toffee and caramel malts. There is a noticeable booziness on the finish, leaving notes of a sort of pumpkin liqueur. Certainly unique and enjoyable in small doses.

Clear amber color with ivory sheen. Big bourbon, vanilla, pit fruit, pumpkin aromas. Medium body with soft co2. Boozy whiskey, vanilla, pit fruit flavors with mild pumpkin--good

I know what you’re thinking, how can anybody possibly rate a beer this HIGH?!?! and a PUMPKIN beer at that! wtf? Extremely well-balanced in terms of spicing, malt, alcohol, and aroma. The rich toffee and rounded caramel flavors of the malt come through beautifully in this big barley wine. Incredibly smooth, a slight amount of diacetyl gives a more velvety sensation when sipping. The rich sweetness of the malt gives the impression of a bite of raw cookie dough along with the warm custardiness of a slice of fresh pumpkin pie. Well done.

Tap @ Elysian’s GPBF 2012... Poured a hazy amber/orange with a nice forming head. This was surprisingly good. Lots of sweetness all over with pumpkin spice and earthiness. Dark caramel and toasted sugars and malts added a finishing touch. Low bitterness.

A nice amber color, topped with a decent enough head. However, I just couldn’t get past the intense onslaught of butterscotch and diacetyl that the aroma and body were both imbued with. Cloying butterscotch and brown sugar finish.
