jhumphries69 (717), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Aug 12, 2007 Pours a deep gold with orange highlights and a medium-sized white head that laces the glass. The aroma is big with grapefruit, soft fruit, and sweet malts. The flavor is a great balance between citrusy and piney hops and lots of crystal malt and sugar. The finish is somewhat dry with an aftertaste of citrus and malts. The mouthfeel is a tad over-carbonated. Otherwise, it is creamy and medium in body. Overall, a very decent IPA. Their menu (at the Tangletown pub) indicated that their beers (Elysian) had defeated Dogfish Head’s in their informal in-pub tasting competition (90 Minute IPA must have been the competitor). This week they were pitting this brew against Victory’s Hop Devil. I personally don’t think this brew is quite as good as either of those, but it is pretty tasty. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 30, 2007 Draught sample at brewery. Great fresh grassy hops with apricots and resin. Mild bitter fruity malts. Fresh! Dull golden amber clear with creamy lacing off-white head. Medium-heavy watery body with medium carbonation. Big fresh hops flavor. Grassy with grapefruit and big bitter finish. Sweet sugary malt and light grain. Big bitter finish with medium chalky bitter after. Nice big IPA but not overly harsh. vacantskies (79), Spokane, Washington, USA Jul 28, 2007 mellow orange flavor, good aftertaste, not very hoppy, little to no head and dull brown appearance, aroma is a great piney smell. Worth the price. PSmith (35), Kennewick, Washington, USA Jul 14, 2007 A nice golden orange color with a good looking white head. Aroma is a woody spice smell. A slight malt flavor with a bit of hops. Not a bad beer but not great. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA Jul 10, 2007 Amber pour, mid-sized off-white head, decent lacing. Retention for such a dimunitive head is excellent. The aroma is of mellow pine, new wood, lightly toasted grains and tangerine rind. Flavor is moderately bitter, lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic. The malt holds it’s own, just barely. Finishes resiny, bitter and drying. The mouthfeel is adequately carbonated, dusty and medium bodied. Average. theisti (1640), Leawood, Kansas, USA Jun 27, 2007 Draft, at the Seattle Brew Pub. Pour is orange gold with a smallish white head. Aroma is hop and a little bit of chemical funkiness. Taste is the bright floral hops, but strong chemical egg and popcorn was there too - probably diacytel. This was not terribly enjoyable. Arayaga2 (933), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 22, 2007 Updated: Sep 23, 2008Clear golden with lingering white head. Aroma is sweet and floral, albeit too subtle. Sour lemon pithy bitterness in taste with vigorous carbonation, and resinous hop-oil aftertaste. Englishy yeast character with unpleasant fermentation byproducts $5/22oz robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jun 19, 2007 Updated: Apr 17, 2009old rating: 6/2/7/3/13 - 3.1
