Bottle, New Belgium version. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, cereal, wort), moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit), with light notes of detergent and cotton candy. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic, lightly to moderately astringent. Rough malt character (some raw unfermented grain smell even!), otherwise quite simple and uninteresting. Nice mouthfeel is about it.

Unfortunately, the Immortal isn’t all that great of an IPA. The best part about this beer was the first thing I noticed, the appearance. At that point, I thought I was in for a real treat. The beer poured a beauitful dark golden color with a generous off-white head. This really looked like a great IPA, but the experience went totaly downhill from there. As soon as I took a sniff at the top of the glass, I knew this wasn’t going to go all that well. I noticed a sour aroma filled more with caramel and bready malts than inviting and delicious hops. But then the beer took an even worse turn when I took my first sip. The flavors are extremely disappointing, unbalanced and atypical of even a decent IPA. Again, I noticed a sourness to the beer, with too much citrus flavors. I don’t get any spiciness from the hops. It’s way too fruity. The body is a little too light, as well. The hoppiness in this IPA is soft, in that it’s too fruity and doesn’t feature much muscle. This beer does not feature the strong, spicy and bold hops that I love and appreciate in a good IPA. All in all, the Elysian Immortal is a big disappointment.

22oz bottle at restaurant
Appearance: Pours a hazy orange/copper with a medium white head and some lacing
Aroma: Citrus hops, caramel
Taste: Slightly roasted malts, citrus hop with bitterness
A good IPA, not over the top.

Pours hazy golden with mid range white head. Citrus hop aroma. Body is light. So-so hoppiness, dry finish.

22 oz. bottle from the local QFC. Ok, I am a wee bit trashed on this one so don’t go quoting me...ok? Haze light orange appreance with a thin head that sits on top of this beer. Not much of a malt or hop aroma coming off of this thing, but still I am getting a vague citrus hop aroma coming from this, but still, it is rather weak. Some nice fruit aromas coming from the hops, but not enough to save this beer from getting what it deservers. Subtle malt sweetness with a light hop citrus flavor coming through. The bittering hop lingers as I wait in anticipation for some rest on this Christmas day. Not overly creamy, but his carries a nice enough palate to make me enjoy it. Not a bad IPA, but just not one of my favorites.

Bomber with many thanks to scrizzz. Pours a clearish gold with a little bit of an orange hue to it. Head is pretty thin (less than a finger of sudsy foam) and aromas are heavy with tropical fruit - lemon, mango, maybe some tangerine. Flavor has quite a bit of this "tropical fruit" with a nice pine/resin bite in the finish. At times it tastes ever so slightly soapy, but it seems to vary a little by the sip. This is pretty good stuff.

Bottle. 25.4 oz. Pours hazy orange/amber with a massive, three finger, craggy white head. Aroma is strong dry hops, with a tart berry accent, and hints of orange and wheat. Full bodied with a cleanly tangy mouthfeel and strong, but not over powering, finish. Great IPA.
