2012 National Homebrewers Conference Commemorative Beer The recipe for the Grange Farmhouse Ale was a collaboration between Dick Cantwell, Head Brewer at Elysian, and Seattle-area homebrewing luminaries Brandon Horn and Mark Emiley. This beer is made with all Washington ingredients: It combines Great Western Washington Select malt, Northern Brewer hops from the Yakima Valley, Washington-produced Golden Delicious apples, blackberry and wildflower honey and mint in a heavily locally-interpreted version of a Belgian-style Farmhouse ale. Dozens of homebrewers took part in the creation of this brew, from roasting malts to an old-fashioned cider pressing party and brew day at our Capitol Hill pub.

Received this in a trade a year or so ago. Can’t remember who sent this, super pumped to give this a try. Poured with plus carbonation a clear deep gold. Fluffy white head. Aroma was spicy yeast, sweet fruit, spices and some mint. Flavors were sweet fruit, bready malt, mint and a touch of spice. Mouthfeel was about standard to medium. Plus carbonation. Overall this was enjoyable and tasty. A fun beer for sure. Thanks again!

Bottle sample. Cloudy golden color with a small white head. Some funky yeast, spicy hops, yogurt and sugar powder. Apple, cinnamon, some wheat tartness and cider like. Refreshing, medium body, low bitterness. Interesting and overall OK.

Murky golden yellow, almost orange color with an interesting, almost slightly sweaty, citrusy, fresh, gooey, lightly caramel grain flavor that blends well with the yeast. It has a nice balance of everything, and shows a nice use of the yeast. It’s actually a little odd, but still pretty delicious. Hops are light, but you can tell they’re there - definitely enough to be supportive of the yeast and sweet grains. A very fun beer!

Mint honey apple and feet on the nose. Golden pour chill haze not much head. Flavors of mint honey feet apple and light yeast. Kind of flabby carbonation. A little thin. Interesting. Not really my thing though. "Meh"(Jon 2009).

Pours a hazy golden orange color with a white head. Really nice spice and yeast aroma to this. Some coriander, white pepper, and nutmeg to go along with lots of fruits such as banana, pear, and apple. Good bread/biscuit malt base to it as well. A bit sweeter than I like my saisons, but really nice. Lots of fruits, sweet malt flavors of bread, and a moderate spiciness. Light yeast, a little citrus hoppiness, and wheat.
