3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hazy light amber colour. Wheaty, yeasty aroma with light orange accent. Very orangey...okay yuzu-y. The body is slightly sweet & sour, and a little creamy too. Overly firm pale malts with big yuzu character in the finish. The yuzu is great when you get it, but overall this beer is a shade too yeasty.

Draught at the brewpub. Cloudy dark yellow. Citric yeasty aroma. Sweet and medium bodied. Like a weizenbock with some citrus character. Low bitterness. An interesting, well made beer, but I’m not convinced that this concept really flies.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very cloudy yellow beer with a thick white head. Aroma is very spicy, yeasty estery and slightly phenolic spices. Sweet bubble gum, cotton candy and spice. Has loads of flavour, some citrus peel, tart wheaty body, slightly sourish and dry toward the finish. All the yeasty character is backed by a distinct lemon/orange citrus flavour. Very Belgian and quite tasty.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: JAN 11, 2006 On tap at Kisaku in Seattle.
Pours light golden; the flavor blends Belgian yeast and spice with a fruit-juice sweetness that I could not get into. Limited hop profile. I’m not overly impressed here.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Draft: 2005 Oregon Brewers Festival in Portland, OR) & (Draft: Elysian Brewing Company in Seattle/Capitol Hill, WA) Sweet and fruity, but tart aroma, spicy, with Belgian yeast and light citrus. Very interesting smelling beer, especially the unique fruitiness which I presume is the Yuzu. Obvious Belgian characteristics, the yeast, the spice, the sweetness, but the uniqueness of the citrusy fruitiness lends an interesting twist, a balancing flavor and a wonderful quirkiness to this beer. Medium bodied, round and well-carbonated mouthfeel, but the hops and fruit keep the palate clean and refreshing. Pale golden color, fairly hazy, with plenty of carbonation bubbles rising through the beer. White head starts out pretty small, but retains a thin layer for the duration of the session, thanks in large part to the contribution from the carbonation bubbles. No lacing, however. I’m guessing I’d like this beer without the addition of Yuzu, but the unusual fruit really makes this an enjoyable and interesting beer. Hats off for trying something different, but dining at Elysian this evening, it seems like this is a place where being different is encouraged. My kind of place.

On tap at the 2005 OBF. Pours a very clear yellow with a medium white head. A kinda citrus acidic taste goes throughout this beer with a nice estery spice from the yeast. Citrus fruit up front, some bitter orange, and a dry finish.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Had this beer on draught at Tangletown. This beer pours a golden color with a medium sized white head and a little bit of lacing on the sides of the glass. The aroma is hay and grass with a hint of lemon...fairly basic and light. The mouthfeel is very soda-like. The best way to describe this beer is 7 Up or lemon lime shasta. Heavy carbonation, tart with more banana....what is up with Elysian and their love for banana’s and those things citrusy!!!! Yeasty, tart with some citrus and tang in the finish. A little barnyardy but overall just generally boring. Slight sweetness mid-sip. Nice...but boring.

Draft at Tangletown
Murky yellow and a little bit of a green hue as well. Sharp, tingling lime and spiced floral nose. Soapy, oily and smooth, with a weird sweet sugary lime and lemon soda-pop resemblance. Finish is coating slick oily and sweet limes and sugar. Very interesting, but too pop-like.

Tasted on Tap at 2005 OBF. Light gold color, slightly hazy. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet. A medium bodied Belgian Ale. Very fruity and sweet with a whole lot of lime and orange/tangerine flavors. Very citrusy. Nice bright Belgian-style yeasts. Lively carbonation. Light and refreshing. Touch of spicy hops. Nice summer beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
