black, whispy beige head that can be roused into a thin head leaving nice lace, big roasted and chocolate aroma, rich malt flavor with lots of chocolate and a nice oily oatmeal character that reinforces the chocolate, touch of roasted, enough hop bitterness to add some balance and complexity

CaptainCougar (4625), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 11, 2007 Sampled on tap on 8/5/06: Pours a nearly opaque dark brown with a frothy, nicely-lacing light tan head. Sweet dark caramel and roasted malty aroma has an earthy hop twinge and some bready notes. Body starts with a good sticky sweet caramel maltiness with a fresh piny hop balance revealing more roasty dark chocolate notes. A very nice porter. unclemattie (1557), Georgia, USA Oct 12, 2006 Updated: Jan 12, 2007I had this beer at EG at a Bastille Biere de Garde Firkin tasting. very dark, tan head and stout looking. This just happens to be the way I prefer porters. expresso aroma. (Krusty mentioned worchester??) sweet and coffee flavors. very strong. This just may be the best porter I’ve ever had. Go Julie!! MI2CA (1033), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Sep 19, 2006 Draft - Aroma is creamy mocha, roasted malts and mild hops. Pours black with small head and great lacing. Flavor matches aroma. Palate is tart and creamy at the same time. A nice porter. aracauna (2238), Georgia, USA Jul 27, 2006 By far Julie’s best beer for the opening week. I’m going to have to figure out how to get back up there to try the Biere de Garde when it’s ready. Dark, dark brown with a khaki head. Big, rich aroma with espresso, brownies and a bit of c-hop aroma in the back. Very stoutlike. As it warms, there’s a bit of heat in the back from the alcohol.
