Bottle. Pours near black with a fully lasting and medium lacing creamy beige head. Aroma is mild with roasted malt, hops, bitter chocolate, caramel, herbal, ash, resin, grapefruit. Taste is medium+ bitter and near medium sweet. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is medium. Finishes medium astringent roasted and quite hoppy. The hops doesn’t really really come thought in the aroma, but are certainly there.

Black with a medium tanned head. Aroma is hoppy, fresh. Little bit like Hallertauer hops¿? In mouth it’s hoppy and bitter, but balanced.

Aroma: When opening the bottle, I could smell the aroma from far away; nicely citrusy and the smell of burned malts. Lovely. Appearance: Jet black with a small white head; pretty, but not the prettiest I’ve seen ;-) Taste: Hints of the nice hops, but a bit overwhelmed by burned malts. Also a nice bitter aftertaste. Still very tasty! Extra: Emelisse has this special extrabitter aftertaste... I also found this in their Imperial Stout; I like it, but I can imagine that some think it’s over the top.

330ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Almost black colour, reasonable head. Sweet fruity malt aroma. Treacle caramel flavour. Smooth & sweet. Really not sure why this is called a black IPA. It is not like any I have had before.

Bottle at a tasting. A black pour. An aroma of big roasted malts and citrusy hops. The roasted notes and the hops work well here. Some nice fruit with citrus. Anise was not tasted. The roasted notes come through nicely.

Very well made black IPA with long aftertaste and good strength. It’s subdued and not too particular but still good, malt present.

Bottle at home in London on NYE. Pours black-brown with a creamy, tan head. Dark toast aroma, some burnt pine, a bit of sticky grapefruit. Medium sweet flavor, brown bread, some ripened dark fruits, subtle tangy berries, charcoal, sturdy roast, burnt pine. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Lightly drying to finish with mellow pine resins, more roasted malts, some bittersweet cocoa, burnt wood. Decent.
