33 cl bottle @ home, BBE 09/2013
Aroma is quite roasted with coffee and hints of dark chocolate. Also some leather notes that could be observed also in Emelisse Smoked Porter. Flavour is roasted with coffee, some fruity hops, hints of dark chocolate and cocoa. A Black IPA very close to an Imperial Stout. But I like it.

330ml bottle from Bierzwerg

Pours dark brown, almost black, with a sticky bubbly white head. Aroma of coffee, fruity hops, roasted malts and ash. Taste is slightly roasty with fruits, coffee, chocolate and ash. Finish is fruity and slightly bitter with some roastiness. Not very bitter, but fruity and roasty. Well balanced, quite tasty black IPA.

330 ml bottle @ Haket. Pours very dark brown, almost black, with a small creamy brownish white head that leaves some trace on the glass while slowly dissipating. Smell is slightly sweet with dark bread, roasted malts, coffee , grass and hints of liquorice and alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, bitter chocolate, wood, pine, lemon peal, grass and hints of grapefruit juice. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and rather creamy. Finish is bitter with roasted malts, coffee and hints of citrus.

(Bottle) Pours dark brown to black with a nougat colored to pale brown head. The aroma holds dark bready malt, mild fruit esters and soft liquorice with undertones of mild grassy and spicy hops as well as a sting of alcohol. Hints of raisins, dark berries, chocolate and leather. The flavour is is light sweet to medium sweet, medium bitter and light acidic. Much more hops in the flavour - woodsy, mild grapefruits, light tropical/peach, grass, pine and spices. Malt brings dark bread and caramel and a whisper of chocolate. Liquorice and hard candy. The mouthfeel is round and soft with a light carbonation. Licuorice and fruity/light resinous hops. Medium bodied.

Idiosynkrasie (3920) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - FEB 17, 2012
330ml bottle. Opaque black with small to medium stable and good lacing beige head. Fading, small scale hop aroma with decent dark malt and bitter chocolate background. Dark malt and bitter chocolate predominates the taste, also some roasty notes. Hop stays in background, but holds a possible sweet note at bay. Well balanced, with a tendency toward an "Imperial Dry Stout", if this exhibits an antipole concerning lesser hops compared to a Black IPA.

Black body, off white head. Roasted malty aroma with a nice pine bitterness. Smooth body, little carbonation. Nice roasted flavour with coffee and a balanced aromatic bitter finish.

11.2 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, citrus hops, with caramel and medium sweetness. Flavour of medium bitter hops, with some pleasantly roasted malts and coffee, with medium sweetness. Well-rounded, by-the-books black IPA. Very enjoyable.

onkelgobber (150) - Edinburgh, - FEB 12, 2012
33cl bottle at Appelation Wines, thanks Ash. Pours dark brown coffee, with a small light brown head. The nose has notes of coffee and earthiness. The taste has the same again, but a very poor balance between the dryness of the coffee and the malt. The palate is medium bodied and textured with a clean finish. A bit of a dissapointment.

Black pour with tan head, aromas of liquorice, pine, yeast. Flavours are initially gooseberry hops, pine, some coffee, leading to woody vine fruits. Pleasing mouthfeel; enough body to carry it all without being too heavy.
