UPDATED: MAY 24, 2012 Re-rate 5/22/12: Bottle sample at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Thanks Dagan. Dark brown. Aroma of roastiness, olives and a some hops. Flavor has a bit of sweetness, some roastiness with chocolate and coffee hints, and a bitter finish with some hops. Medium-bodied. 6/3/6/3/13

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks Dror. Dark brown color. Aroma of some piney hops and somewhat chocolaty roastiness. Sweet roasty flavor with chocolate, coffee, and a bitter hoppy finish with a bit of piney and citric notes. Medium-bodied. Pretty nice. 7/3/7/3/15=3.5

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours dark brown/black with a very thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate, but also fruit and a suggestion of honey. Med + body. Flavor is chocolate, and it’s sharp and biting. So there must be lots of hop, but the chocolate tends to hide the actual flavors. There’s some fruit, but whether berry or stone? The flavors are quite strong, and it finishes dry and bitter. It’s almost like there’s some wintergreen in this. Sure not tho. Interesting.

Dogbrick (8658) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 24, 2012
Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 01/20/2012. Pours dark brownish-black with a medium tan head that evaporates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked malt and hops. Medium body with a roasty character and flavors of burnt malt, caramel and hops. The finish is smoky with a lingering floral hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Medium, tan head, slowly reduced to rim over black-brown beer. Velvety, chocolaty nose, with wafts of wet moss, and something akin to shrimps. Very roasted, hops arising in the finish. Very roasted taste, charcoal, sweet-bitter. Again just a glimpse of the hops, mainly retronasal; leafy. Hops strengthening, however, with mounting temperature, C-hops. Velvety, creamy MF despite some good carbonation; medium bodied. Nice, if not outright spectacular.

Bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours black with a moderate sized tanned head. Aroma of light burnt and roasted malts, fruity hops as well. Taste is smooth, velvet and oily mouthfeel, some dry and bitter dark chocolate, roasted malts with liquorice lingering to the dry end.

TET (1755) - FINLAND - JAN 21, 2012
A black beer with a weak and light brown head. Aroma is great combination of liquirice and fruits, roastiness, salt liquirice and some pine needles. Taste is liquirice and roasted, lighten fruityness, some coffee, drying herbal bitterness and even slightly resinous aftertaste. Medium+ bodied, slippery and easy to drink. Enjoyable, liquirice and roasted Black IPA.

Embrouille (2830) - SWITZERLAND - JAN 20, 2012
Bottled 33cl. Dark ruby colored. Deeply inviting nose which is reminiscent of strong coffee, sage, tar, citrusy hops, fudge and dark chocolate. Medium to full bodied. Great balance. Faintly minty. Luscious palate. Sticky chunky lacework. Lovely malt profile. Strong bitterness. Dry finish which is reminiscent of strong coffee and sage. Mindlbowingly delicious.

ogreface (1345) - Budapest, HUNGARY - JAN 12, 2012
