33 cl bottle thanks to Nisse666! Sampled on March 8, 2012 Pours black with off white head. Lots of roasty coffee and black licorice in the nose along with some herbal hops. Coffee, grain, and herbal hop flavor. Full mouthfeel, lots of hop bitterness and a little licorice on the finish.

Draft at naked city, listed at 11%. Almost black, yet brown with little head appearance. Watered down coffee and thick fudge backing...touch of hop infused grainy alcohol undertones. Mildly sticky and creamy lower carbonated body. Piney coffee flavor up front, sweet fudgey chocolate, inky, touch of alkaline...fades into a sweet patent malt hoppy finish with a boozey dish waterr backing. As a black ipa, whatever the fuck that is, above average. As a hoppy dark strong beer, it is a little thin and under attenuated.

Bottle from Samís, Durham. Thick looking black pour, looks almost chalky enough to be a stout but thatís probably just the healthy sediment in the beer. Nose is pretty potent, not just the usual citrus and bitter hops but some anise, mild fruits, and roasts. I want to give points to the brew for being not just the usual black IPA, but despite the relative distinctiveness of the flavor profile itís not quite balanced or pleasant enough to merit a rave. Solid.

(bottle) pours a black colour with a frothy dark beige head. faint aroma of grass and lime, coffee, toasted malts and light peaches. flavour is mostly the same, very tame hop profile, with big notes of burnt grass, treebark and earth. light-bodied with average carbonation.

330ml Bottle - Dark brown, almost black, with red tinges. Roasted malt, pine and liquorice in the aroma. Roasted taste with notes of pine, liquorice and chocolate. Nicely balanced compared to some other Black IPAs Iíve had, but not necessarily better for it.

Alexus (240) - Stavanger, NORWAY - MAR 14, 2012
Bottle @ Cardinal, Stavanger. Black in color, with a tan head. Aromas of some licorice, floral faint hops and malts. Flavors of malts, some hops. Calling it an IPA does not match my expectations for this beer. But itís still a great ale.

Bottle shared with daje at Olympen
Pours black with a tanned head. Smells of coffee, roasted malts and some citrus. Not as fruity as some other black ipas iíve tried lately. Taste has good sweetness, some fruityness and blackberries. Some chocolate notes too. Nice power hoppy bitterness in the finish. Absolutely a nice beer
