3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Gravicask, one-third pint at the Belgian & Dutch bar, Wednesday at GBBF ’11. Shiny surface to a pitch black body. Smell of dark malts and bittering hops. Coffee grounds in flavour with the support of liquorice. Some kind of dark bitter ending. Semi-roasted palate. Flavoursome and good drinking this one (London, 03.08.2011).

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at GBBF ’11. Ruby black, no head. Not much aroma. Tastes like a strong Porter, not an IPA. Nice. Strong in the finish and claps in the throat.

Had this @ Botermarkt Bierfestival 2011. Dark brown colored brew. Roasted aroma, hops. Flavor has a good balance between roast and hops. Nice.

Bottle @ home. Dark brown almost black color with a deep dark red glow coming through; fantastic color! Average sized vast beige head. Smell hops, fruits and bitter. Taste hops, roasted, slightly coffee. Nice mouthfeel as well. Very nice black IPA.

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2011, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.
Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, moderate to heavy hoppy, orange - citrus, licorice. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, roasted bitter, dark roasted, light hoppy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Quite alcoholic and sweet aroma - mashy. Sweet roasty body, again mashy. Smooth to slick palate. Decent roasty finish, but quite lacking in hops. Once you’re past the initial aroma, it covers the 8% reasonably. But not a good example of a dark hoppy beer, as it wasn’t hoppy enough.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
More black than ipa but what a beer. The coffee flavors are pronounced but it never gets to bitter. Some ground, resin and red fruit too. Evolves into a smooth latte almost. Great Emelisse beer, bought at De Bierkoning.

Cask@GBBF2011. Quite much pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some spices, quite hoppy and mild toasted and liquorice like notes as well. Flavour is roasted malts, toasted notes, toffee, mild floral and fruityness as well. Very pleasant. Leaves a long ashy and floral aftertaste. For once a nice Black IPA.
