Had this @ Botermarkt Bierfestival 2011. Dark brown colored brew. Roasted aroma, hops. Flavor has a good balance between roast and hops. Nice.

Bottle @ home. Dark brown almost black color with a deep dark red glow coming through; fantastic color! Average sized vast beige head. Smell hops, fruits and bitter. Taste hops, roasted, slightly coffee. Nice mouthfeel as well. Very nice black IPA.

Bottle: Medium off white head on top of a deep dark brown ruby colored beer. Smell hops, citrus, milk, grapefruit, pine and manure. Taste hops, fruity, citrus, pine, pine apple, peach, bitter, herbs some malts and grains. Nice medium bitter fruity herby aftertaste. Low carbo, medium body, soft mouthfeel and a light watery texture.

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2011, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.

Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, moderate to heavy hoppy, orange - citrus, licorice. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, roasted bitter, dark roasted, light hoppy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110802]

Quite alcoholic and sweet aroma - mashy. Sweet roasty body, again mashy. Smooth to slick palate. Decent roasty finish, but quite lacking in hops. Once you’re past the initial aroma, it covers the 8% reasonably. But not a good example of a dark hoppy beer, as it wasn’t hoppy enough.

More black than ipa but what a beer. The coffee flavors are pronounced but it never gets to bitter. Some ground, resin and red fruit too. Evolves into a smooth latte almost. Great Emelisse beer, bought at De Bierkoning.

Cask@GBBF2011. Quite much pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some spices, quite hoppy and mild toasted and liquorice like notes as well. Flavour is roasted malts, toasted notes, toffee, mild floral and fruityness as well. Very pleasant. Leaves a long ashy and floral aftertaste. For once a nice Black IPA.

Cask @ GBBF, 2011. Pours amber with a small creamy brown head. Caramel, yeast, fruit and hops. Dry with a peachy hoppyness. Smooth. Ends dry.

Cask conditioned handpump GBBF 2011. A black coloured beer with an off-white head. Poured very very lively but did settle down. A hoppy, roasty and smoky aroma which becomes allof that in the mouth. It comes into itself as it progresses and is actually a nicely balanced tasty BIPA. I likes it far more than I expected to.
