Bottle at Janoinen Lohi, Helsinki. Pours dark brown with a medium-sized frothy head. The aroma displays prominent hoppiness with roasty malts barely featuring; grapefruit, citrus and pine dominate. Taste is dry and abundant in hoppiness; medium to heavy bitterness that rise toward finish that takes long in coming. What is striking however is the palate; it is deliciously smooth and full-bodied. Soft carbonation and a velvety texture provide a pleasant base for the taste. Malts feature in the palate, not so much in the flavours. A good take on this great style.

On tap 5 oz. pour at Max's in the Fell's Point district, Baltimore, MD. Nearly opaque, dark brown with a thin beige head fair lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, root beer, mango, prunes, orange, toffee, pine and alcohol. Very hoppy taste of roasted malt, citrus, tropical fruit, pine, orange and toffee. Medium body and medium carbonation. A big hoppy IPA with a solid roasted malt backbone. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: DEC 3, 2014 After years of getting acclimatised to European IPAs that focus on floral notes and not hops for the sake of hops, this was an assault on the moisture in my mouth. Delicious, though.

Reddish brown colour with big fluffy head with lots of lacing, looks stunning. Aroma has red berries, tropical fruits, maybe mango? Taste continues with the same recipe, there is grapefruit, tropical sweeter fruits, red berries and again mango. Medium body and high carbonation. Still I wonder where is the ’black’ in my Black IPA?
