Deep dark cola coloured body, not fully black, at about 75% opaque with a very thin, oily tan head - not good looking, really. Aroma of roasted malt, earth, licorice, mushrooms and a bit of hops - not much though. Medium to Full-bodied; Meaty, full earthy flavour with a lot of Worcestershire sauce flavours, some soy sauce, some roasted malt and a touch of hop bitterness at the end. Aftertaste shows some caramel and toffee, but the overwhelming earthy and meaty flavours just show too much. Overall, not such a great beer, especially for the style. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods (Bowery) in New York, New York on 25-November-2011 for US$5.99 sampled at home in Washington on 11-April-2012.

7/23/2011 9:05:19 AM Bottle at Arendsnest. Dark, dark malty body with small head. Nose of hops, pines but also darker, of berries and malt. Taste is also quite nice balance of spiky hops and syrupy malts. Enjoyable.

Buddel: Hazy, deep chestnut-amber coloured, big stable and lacy off-white head; liquorice, toasted malt and dried berries in the nose, distinctive herbal hops in the background; solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied and soft; lingering bitter-malty and fruity finish. Very Stout-like brew, very good…

Deep brown color with medium beige head. Hoppy aroma, citrusy and piney, with a good coffe and choclate background, with roasted malts and molasses. Taste follows the nose, pine, resins, citrus, roasted malts, chocolate and coffee, with a moderate high bitter aftertaste.

Bottle at De Paas. Smells like cellar mold and tastes like a smoky hangover. Roasted, caramels, heavy bitter hops. Backlog from 2014/10/07.

Dark deep color with high beige head with big bubbles. Aroma is pinapple, mandarine, citrusly and litlle bit roast and espresso. Taste is complex, full body, high carbonation, refreshly fruit with some coffee and chocolatte notes. Bitter feeling is with small tannins, from roasted malt? Maybe...Enjoyable!
