4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass:
Medium sized creamy light beige foamy head on top of a black colored beer.
Aromas of roast, coffee, coffee beans, marzipan, light chocolate and light light liquorice, some whiskey ish tones and some raisin and light berries.
Flavours of roast, coffee, some chocolate, some cream, light whiskey and wood tones, some dried leaves, bitters, light spices, malts, light light leather and smokey touch. For some reason it tastes a bit young, but the mouthfeel and texture are sublime!
Aftertaste is nice bitter, roast, clean hint of liquorice and some spice with leaves and light chocolate.
Low carbo, oily silky mouthfeel, full body and a creamy oily texture.
Very nice beer to drink. Soft, smooth, round and thick.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask handpull at Churchkey in DC. Dark clear maroon brown cor, tan edge head. Aroma of my favorite whisky, with all of its beautiful smoke and peat. Taste us chewy tobacco, burnt edpresso, tar, Irish bogs. Taste side by side with Ola Dubh 12 and 21 year reserve, also on cask, and this one not only held its own, but outdid them both. Holy cow!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Eulogy. Poured a thick opaque brown with a large foamy tan head. Heady dark charred peat flavors. Charcoal with lighter fluid. Hot tar. Ashtray. Liquid smoke. Bitter chocolate. Burnt coffee grounds. Molasses. Hint of some underlying red fruits but mostly the strong black smokey whiskey notes overpower it. Intense and challenging. Strongest of this barrel aged series I have had so far. Good stuff.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Draught at In de Wildeman, Amsterdam, 20 Feb 2013) Pitch black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of liquorice, hints of smoke, dark bread and oak wood. A bit closed. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, liquorice, heavy flavours of smoke and oak wood (an Ardbeg explosion more or less) and a generous roasted bitterness in a dry finish. A lot more comes through here than in the nose. Alcohol stays fairly well hidden under the oak and smoke layer. Not very subtle, but quite a lovely beer for lovers of imperial stouts and Islay whisky.

The quality of Emelisse shines through once again. Great ardbeg liquid peat taste but also surprisingly refreshing. Warming tingling aftertaste. Tap at In De Wildeman.
