330 ml bottle into snifter, best before 12/2015. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, oak, light peat smoke, light whiskey, grapefruit, orange peel, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, barrel, and hop notes; with good strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, oak, light whiskey, light peat smoke, grapefruit, orange zest, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness. Good amount of pine/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, toast, oak, light whiskey, light peat smoke, grapefruit, orange peel, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, barrel, and hop notes; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy and fairly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice barrel aged black and tan. All around good complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, barrel, and hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein sehr dunkelbraunes fast schwarzes Bier mit schöner beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, Kaffee, leicht holzig, fruchtig. Geschmack angenehm röstmalzig, schokoladig, Kaffeebohnen, lecht alkoholisch.

33 cl bottle @ home (no indication as to what barrel was used). Very dark color. Small beige head, with a thin layer retention. Aroma’s: peat, lots of iodine, medicinal, some roast. Flavor is moderate to full sweet with a fairly strong bitterness. Alcohol feel is not too strong. Carbonation is quite low, giving this a soft, velvetty mouthfeel. Long finish with iodinde, earthy bitterness and ash. Harsh flavors, but they somehow blend very well.

shared 33cl bottle. poured a dark brown colour with a beige head. caramel, smoke, chocolate, taste is almost completely dominated by the peated whisky. I gave it a shot but i just can’t like the peated beers. it’s like drinking a bottle of iodine

Amazing beer. Strong RIS, yet it is quite hoppy. The subtle Isley notes give the beer extra depth.

Bottle courtesy of rlgk. Pours very dark reddish brown with a small bubbly beige head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is malty, floral and tiny fruity with roasted malts, pine needles, resinous wood, cereal, caramel, grapefruit juice, celery, watered down coffee, alcohol and hints of black pepper corns. Taste is bitter and malty with roasted malts, stale grapefruit juice, pine needles, resinous wood, silage, cedar, watered down coffee, alcohol, cocoa powder, moist soil, peat, overripe tropical fruits, oatmeal cookies and hints of pepper corns. Mouthfeel is astringent, oily bitter and medium to full bodied. finish is bitter and malty with roasted malts, grapefruit rinds, banana bread, lemon zest, silage, watered down coffee, cedar and peat. Weird and not my cup of tea...

Black colour, cream head. Aroma of whisky, ash, peat, hops, coffee, chocolate, Islay. Quite bitter flavour, coffee, roasted malts, Islay whisky, peat, ash, cacao, hops notes. Finish liquorice, roasted malts, ash, peat. Great brew, the Islay barrel aging really gives it a great finish. This beer makes me happy.
