Draught at Barrelhouse Flats. Poured very dark brown with a thin white foam. Aroma of funky scotch. Off-putting soapy taste very bitter. Made me shudder.

BBF2014 - 27-09 / 21:10, fles. Mooi bier met een goede schuimlaag. Kleur zeer donker. Hop, zoet en bitter vechten om de hoogste punten. In de smaak zit overduidelijk drop en iets van vanille.

Aroma is chocolate, dark malts, pine and mild earthiness. The flavor is grapefruit, chocolate/cocoa, dark malts, medium/mildly cloying sweetness and a bitter/slightly vinous/alcoholic finish.

330 ml bottle into snifter, best before 12/2015. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, oak, light peat smoke, light whiskey, grapefruit, orange peel, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, barrel, and hop notes; with good strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, oak, light whiskey, light peat smoke, grapefruit, orange zest, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness. Good amount of pine/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, toast, oak, light whiskey, light peat smoke, grapefruit, orange peel, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, barrel, and hop notes; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy and fairly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice barrel aged black and tan. All around good complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, barrel, and hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

33cl bottle at home. Dark brown (almost black) with a small beige head. Medium to full body with light carbonation. Coffee, sweet caramel, roasted malts, dark chocolate and some vanilla. A great full flavoured brew.

PotjeBier (1698) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - DEC 28, 2013
33 cl bottle @ home (no indication as to what barrel was used). Very dark color. Small beige head, with a thin layer retention. Aroma’s: peat, lots of iodine, medicinal, some roast. Flavor is moderate to full sweet with a fairly strong bitterness. Alcohol feel is not too strong. Carbonation is quite low, giving this a soft, velvetty mouthfeel. Long finish with iodinde, earthy bitterness and ash. Harsh flavors, but they somehow blend very well.
