4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black colour, cream head. Aroma of whisky, ash, peat, hops, coffee, chocolate, Islay. Quite bitter flavour, coffee, roasted malts, Islay whisky, peat, ash, cacao, hops notes. Finish liquorice, roasted malts, ash, peat. Great brew, the Islay barrel aging really gives it a great finish. This beer makes me happy.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep dark brown with a faint red tint when tilted with a thick, lacy, tan, head that settles to a nice thin frothy film. Smells of peat, roasted malt, lots of liquorish, iodine or ammonia, chocolate, mocha and burnt wood. A bit medicinal. Full oily body with soft carbonation. Tastes of sweet berries and deep malt at the start and finishes with a burnt, peat, smoky, earthy, roasted finish. Like the smell, the taste hits of a medicinal quality that is sort of in competition with a peat whiskey taste. You can feel the barrel agedness of the peated whiskey come out. Strange I canít really taste much of the TIPA.

5/IX/13 - 33cl bottle from Biernavigatie (webshop, NL) @ home - BB: XII/2014 (2013-828)
Clear dark brown to black beer, creamy irregular beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing. Aroma: lots of caramel, some vanilla, bourbon, alcohol, chocolate, peated whisky, mocha, coffee, bit of chloride. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sugary and sweet start, some vanilla, caramel, pretty bitter, whisky. Aftertaste: sugary, caramel, bitter hops, some citrus, lots of peated whisky, bit chemical, chloride, touch of disinfectant. I had hoped the "regular" B&T would be not barrel aged, but I was wrong...

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from the brewery. Poured a deep mahogany colour with a thin off-white head. The aroma is medicinal with alcohol, leading to a strong bitter flavour with a lots of roasted malt, alcohol liqourice and "band-aid" on the very sharp and strong palate. I canít say iíve ever tasted a Black and Tan that was this medicinal and I donít think iíll be buying more on this basis. However, I note that nobody else has reported the medicinal edge to this beer, so maybe itís infected. Itís was a fresh bottle bought directly from the brewery less than a month ago though.

UPDATED: AUG 13, 2013 Pours a dark brown ruby beer with a good creamy tan head. Smells delicious. Coffee, burned and roasty. The taste is awesome too. Nice coffee and roasty taste. Nice bitter finish. Low carbo which is good for this beer, thick body and a sticky texture. Lovely beer.
