(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 1 March 2015) Brownish amber colour with dense, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with roasted malt, dark bread, raisins and prunes. Malty, spicy taste with notes of dried fruit, roasted malt, crisp-bread and a balanced spicy bitterness. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and well balanced dubbel. Nice one.

Not my favorite Emelisse still good. Murky brown with very small beige head and pleasant mild carbonation. Flavor starts a bit sweet with candy sugar and figs and finishes more bitter with notes of overripe fruit. The alcohol does come through in the flavor. A good warming double but not very special.

bottle bought from our local supermarket, clear brown cola colour with a tanned head, caramel malts, plums, chocolate, yeast, bitter aftertaste, banana, oily texture, hope our supermarket start selling their saison now...

Draft at Emelisse. Pours murky, muddy, ugly brown with a big light-beige head. Aroma is sour, oud bruin, some dark fruit, yeast. Dominant candy sugar force, can't this do with less freaking sugar?, dry, light bitterness.

(Keg at Viisi Penniä, 20150220) The beer poured muddy brown and cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had candi sugar, butter and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were kandi sugar, malts, grass, chocolate and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. The strong diacetyl makes me wonder whether this beer is in its proper condition. Nice taste but somewhat off-putting aroma.

Hazy amber brown colour with a long lasting head. Caramel and malty sweetness with some fruity notes. Taste is light, finish is a bit spicy.

Heel bijzondere dubbel.

Roodbruin biermet witte schuimkraag. Geuren van mout, caramel, hop. Smaken van mout, caramel, noten, kruiden. Een zoet-bittere smaak met dito afdronk en een wat olie-achtige textuur van het bier zelf. Bijzondere dubbel en lekker!

330ml brown bottle from Bitter Virtue, Southampton for £2.90. 7.5% abv. I like this sort of beer. Playing around with malt and yeast. Yummy. There’s blood and chocolate and chalk and yeast and a lovely sweetness in a dry palate and soon its all gone. There’s raspberry and deep cherry jam in a bready, musty malt. This is a beer you want to linger and savour, but it’s so yummy you just hoover it up in no time at all. There’s nothing especially interesting or particularly scrummy about the beer, but it just works for me. It’s a little rough and dirty, and tastes alive and authentic, and I love that. I would happily consume bottles of this night after night.
