Pours black with a massive head. Nose shows coffee, roasted malt and sweet bready malt. Coffee and roasted malt as flavours, not particularly complex though. Carbonation is much too high.

Bottle at Janoinen Lohi, Helsinki. Pours black with a brownish medium-sized frothy head. The aroma features dark, bready and roasty maltiness with lots of coffee and some licorice. Taste is initially light sweet; later very roasty and toward finish also bitter. Thankfully coffee is not overdone and flavours are fairly well balanced. Hoppiness is fairly light. The palate is medium to full bodied with a low to moderate carbonation. Nice malty and roasty coffee Imperial stout.

Pours a three finger light tan head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Black color, no highlights. Medium carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Coffee nose and flavor is heavy roasted coffee and bakers chocolate. Burnt coffee finish. Higher Abv is hidden - label has it at 9.5%. $6.99 for a 330ml bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, Ma.

Egy espresso stout esetében talán nem tűnik túl vakmerő vállalkozásnak határozott elvárásokat támasztani a főzettel szemben, már amennyiben annak általunk elképzelt masszív szerkezetét, robusztus felépítését, kőolajszerű testességét kívánjuk vendégül látni ízlelőbimbóinkon. Nyilván a kávé megjelenési formáinak minden egyes eshetőségére fel vagyunk készülve a kóstolás pillanatait megelőzően, az általunk nagylelkűen előirányzott útvonalhoz képest azonban már a kitöltést követően jelentős eltérést tapasztalhatunk. A hasonló tulajdonságokkal felvértezett főzetekhez viszonyítva meglehetősen vékonynak tűnő test mindezek ellenére egyre markánsabb illatokat áraszt: karamella, étcsokoládé, könnyed pirítottság, bőr és gyümölcs-aszalványok kórusa tölti be a teret. A vizuális élmény keltette kételyt hamar feloldja ízének teljessége, melyben lényegében megvan minden, amit egy efféle típusú sörtől elfogadhat az ember. Olajos textúrája gyengéd hálóként terül el a komponensek masszív súlya alatt, melyek között leginkább a sötét tónusú aromák diadalmaskodnak; az étcsokoládé, a kávészemek pörkölt karaktere, a keserédes, hosszan elnyúló ízek komor játéka... Szívet melengető hangvétellel zárul az előadás, mely amellett, hogy igen fajsúlyos mondanivalót tartalmaz, egyszersmind könnyen emészthetőnek tűnő, amolyan csendes gyilkos karakterű.

Close to black body, but there are some brownish to red hints in there as well. The tiny, beige head consist of big bubbles and is almost gone in no time, but some long-lived bubbles continue to float along the walls of the glass and leave some lacings. Malty and strong aroma of coffee, dark caramel, chocolate, bark and far in the back some strange-ish vegetal notes. The vegetal elements are even more pronounced in the flavour, and although we’re not talking cooked vegetables in the spirit of cheep macro lagers, they are nevertheless a bit disturbing. The roasted notes and the coffee are pleasant, though. Fairly well integrated alcohol. The taste is moderate sweet and pretty heavy bitter. The beer is to close to flat, too flat for my liking. Full body and a light dryness in the aftertaste. A decent beer, but not a particularly successful imperial stout.

August 7, 2014. Bottle, best before december 2015. Pours dark reddish brown with a medium sized tan head. Aroma is lots of coffee with chocolate and light red berries and spices in the background. Cloudy, dark brown, with a tan ring. Dark bread, bitter coffee aroma. Taste is peppery espresso, bitter chocolate roast. A touch of ashiness. Subdued alcohol heat and bitterness. Very mellow...a nice sipper.
