Tap at t’Arendsnest. Pitch black with a brown creamy head leaving excellent lacing. Coffee, tobacco, chocolate, dark dried fruits, roasted malts and peaty/smokey hints fill the nose invitingly. Rich roasted notes, burnt malts and whisky caress the mouth smoothly with alcohol, bitter and sweet flavors. Full body. Medium carbonation. Oily texture with a dry roasted finish. A powerfull but well balanced dring fit for a strong but fair tsar.

Bottle. A very dark brown beer, topped by a small, beige head. Nice piney, citrus peel-ish hoppyness in the aroma, with lots of coffee, roasted malts and some peat. The flavor is quite similar, with lots of hoppy flavors and a fine bitterness, and coffee, roasted malts and a touch of peat from the malts. Full-bodied, dryish and nicely carbonated mouthfeel, finishing with a nice bitterness and roasted malts. Certainly a nice one. 110916

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Pours a murky dark brown color with some floaties and a small beige head. The aroma has dark fruits, chocolate, roasted malts and some moderate bourbon notes. The flavor has roasted malts, chocolate, raisins, oak, and moderate bourbon notes. These Danish imperial stouts are usually a bit strange and tougher to describe, but interesting nonetheless.

Bottle looks simple but really good. Beer in the glass deep black, small head, oily. Starts strong, intense malty, quite roasty. Fine notes of coffee and bitter chocolate. Finish warming, modest alcoholic. Good Imperial Stout.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 8 Oct 2011) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, espresso, vanilla and oak wood. Malty, roasted taste with notes of strong black coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, hints of Islay whisky and lots of wood character. Full body, fairly sweet with a generous coffee bitterness in a long, lingering finish with hints of whisky. Slightly oily texture, excellently balanced. Lovely beer!
