from Erzbierschof - black beer under a long lasting dark beige foam; aroma of peated whisky, tar and black cherries; notes of vanilla; thick and full-bodied; hugely bitter, some residual sugars; long hoppy and peated whisky-like finish with more notes of tar and licorice; some warming alcohol notes too

In short: A roasted, very oaky and very harsh stout. Meh
How: Bottle 330ml at Bishops Arms Järntorget, Göteborg Sweden
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head
In long: Nose has a lot of oak, some nail polish remover and some roast. Intense and somewhat unsettling aroma. Taste is harsh roasted malts, grainy sensation, aggressive oak presence, metallic flavor, a shot of whisky, burnt pastry, chocolate cake icing. Boozy and astringent finish. Harsh from beginning to finish. I needed over 30 minutes to work through a little 330ml bottle. Maybe not as bad as my description makes it to be, but this is not very drinkable. And a bit expensive too. Not sure why I bought this beer, not the first time I am disappointed by Emelisse. I may never learn from my mistakes and unfortunately lawyers will continue to earn from them.

Sampled at SBWF-11 Black. Bubbly, beige head. Pretty light and vinous aroma. Oaky chocolate in the flavour. Surprisingly light body.

Bottle. Deep black color, big tanned head. Heavily roasted aroma with smoke, vanilla, fruity too. Taste is very smoky, with chocolate, coffee, whisky, dark malt, nice balanced bitterness, long roasted aftertaste with alcohol hints shining through in the end.

Bottle @ Amundsen. Pitch black body with a fast disappearing tan head. A very pleasant aroma of dark malt, espresso coffee, leather, oak, vanilla and mild, smooth whisky. Flavor is balanced sweet, smoked malt, distinct but not overwhelming whisky flavor, slightly perfumed, oak, some vanilla and pleasant bitterness. Fine body and a long and warming aftertaste with whisky and malt. A nice one, smooth and evident flavor.

A rather plain imperial stout. I had expected a strong character from the laphroaig barrel, but I hardly tasted/smelled any traces of oak/whisky, which was a disappointment. The taste of ethanol was also quite dominant (even though it was not that strong).

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with low carbonation, but good legs over a nearly black hued body that is quite glass coating. Aromas are strongly of fusel alcohol, scotch, peat, earth, bacon and chocolate. Medium roast. Tons of fumes. Flavors are smokey, nutty, scotch, alcohol, nougat. Sharply warming. Lots of fusel, big and thick yet with a dry and very boozy finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours pitch black with a medium tan head and an aroma of ripe cherries, roasted malts, caramel, whiskey, espresso and dark chocolate. The taste is not as big and complex is I hoped, it’s pretty sweet, mostly roasted malts and watered down whiskey, with some coffee and smoked eels. Pretty good, but I prefer the Ardbeg one.
