3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 vyvvy (2919) - Florissant, USA - SEP 4, 2010
Pours very dark with a soapy bubbly dark tan head. The aroma has cocoa, roasted malt, cream, milk duds, hazelnut, abv, berries and light apple - very nice. The body is quite thick and slick with lots of semi-soft carbonation. The flavor starts with less bitterness than expected and overall different from most imperial stouts. there is lots of dark malt, red berries, light spice and some cream. The finish has more spice and deep dark chocolate taste along with the dark chocolate bitterness. The oak shows a bit as it warms. Interesting, unique and solid take on the style.

Aroma is dark roasted malts and dark fruits with hints of chocolate and coffee. Taste is chocolate and grain malt sweetness with some tartness from the dark fruits and some hints of liquorice and alcohol in the finish. Very slight hop presence. Heavily bodied beer with a modest amount of carbonation. A very solid and enjoyable brew.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ron (1695) - Rochester, New York, USA - MAY 22, 2012
On tap at Tap and Mallet. Pours black and smells of chocolate, licorice, and coffee. The flavor is of sweet roasted malt with the characteristics of the aroma blending together well in the taste. It’s very thick and full bodied with some underlying alcohol noticeable but it did not detract from the very fine flavor.. Extremely good brew.

Taste is malts, strong very dominant licorice, and hints of coffee, dark chocolate, dried dark fruits. Medium body, lively carbonation, light alhohol in the finish. Pretty good allthough aroma is better than the rather onesided flavour. 190512

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 essexcalf (41) - Essex, ENGLAND - MAY 10, 2012
(Bottle). Pours big, creamy, beige head, diminishing to thin. Opaque, very dark. Light carbonation. Aroma - choc, sweet, toffeeish malt, over-ripe fruit, alcohol, bit of soy, some roast.
Sweet throughout, choc, oak, winey/port sweetness, licorice, bit of iron and a slightly tangy, roasty finish with some slight, decent bitterness. Ends bit dry and bitter on aftertaste, with some soy. Intense flavours throughout and lingering on the tongue long after. Complex and quite tasty. Mid body, with lots of oily flavours sticking to the tongue and a bit perfumey / volatile aromas in the mouth. A bit astringent and dry on the aftertaste.
Distinctive Belgian/Dutch taste, guessing it’s the yeast.
Quite nice and distinctive, though this isn’t my ideal impy stout; a bit too soy/salty, sweet and not quite roasty enough for me.
