Rich, in more ways than one, and rather tasty. Scorchy, slightly burnt and toasty. Other elements of tobacco, crust, dark fruits and chocolate. Good stuff.

Bottle, 12C. Black with an inch of light tan head that fades but is never less than a coat. Aroma of blackstrap licorice, mocha, bread, anise, some dark berries. Just a little painty hint of alcohol. Very silky texture, just noticeable carbonation. Sweet with molasses, licorice, more dark berries than suggested by a sniff. More chocolate than coffee. Bitterness struggles a bit through the sweetness, then creeps up. A bit salty at the end. Not particularly complicated, but lovely.

Bottle with Kate and Adriaan. Pours oily black with little head to speak of. The aroma is dense chocolatey, roast malt, soy sauce. The flavour is sweet, chocolate, liquorice, roast malt, a light acidity from burnt malts. The alcohol is evident and warming. Enjoyed immensely.

Couleur noire, bon col cremeux beige. Nez malté chocolaté, note café frais et alcool. Gout malté, chocolat noir bien huileux et doux, note chocolat amer, réglisse, houblon, longue fin de bouche grillée. Super

Bottle pour opaque black with moderate tan head. Looks good. Nose mostly soy sauce, some raisin and prune, then alcohol. Some biscuit. Taste, again with the soy sauce. Followed by light roast and have to search hard, maybe a little coffee. Missing a lot of the big imperial stout flavors of coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, and roast that I like. Tastes better than it smells, but not that much. Perhaps a bad bottle.

Chocolate Soy sauce in a bottle :-) Tastes briljant, loads of alcohol but you only notice after you swallow. The sour aftertaste is not to my liking.

Bottle. Aroma raisins, sherry, complex maltiness, caramel, chocolate. Clear very dark colour. Taste is fruity, dried fruits. Restrained dark malts. Somewhat alcoholic, but mostly in the finish, in the back of the throat. The warm alcohol then lingers quite long.

330 ml bottle from Les Vignerons (2012 vintage, I think). Pitch black, absolutely no light passing through, with a small, creamy and moderately persistent light beige head. Quite complex nose, slightly boozy, tons of tofee/burnt caramel and chocolate notes, some light bourbon, light vanilla and generic christmas types of spices. Slightly woody and meaty as well. Surprisingly easy to drink, quite mellow and not as extreme as feared. Overall very balanced, but perhaps more bitter than sweet. As the nose, chocolate, a hint of coffee, and roasted malts in the taste. Ashy and warming aftertaste. Soft carbonation, medium to full body, oily texture. A "safe", well done and enjoyable RIS.

Black with a lovely tan head. Aroma is a bold dark malt character. Taste is syrupy, sweetness, then astringent bitterness. Nice Ris.
