330 ml bottle from BG Birra, served in a snifter glass. Pitch black, absolutely no light passing through, with an average, lasting, light beige head. Intriguing and unique aroma, notes of vanilla, licorice, Starbucks coffee, slightly meaty and smoky. A hint of wood as well. Same notes emerging in the mouth, definitely woody with a trace of leather, not much whiskey to speak of, moderately sweet and chocolaty. Not as coffee forward as the aroma indicates. Slightly dry and rooty, roasted and ashy finish. Very soft carbonation, medium body (perhaps too light for the style), oily texture. Not your typical RIS, but I enjoyed it.

Pours very dark brown with a bit of particulate matter. Minimal, oily head. Aroma is lightly smoky. Medium to light body. Bitter finish, where the coffee becomes evident. Nice.

Pours dark reddish brown, with only a scum of bubbles for head. Strong coffee aroma. Taste is coffee, very bitter coffee, almost ending in grass/straw. The palate is a bit acerbic. Would have been better if just a tad sweeter.

Bottle (cant remember where I got it), probably 2 or 3 years old, large sample, served in a snifter. Dark brown color, medium frothy brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, slight smoke, bit coffee, bacon, mocha. Bit sweet in taste, some bitterness, slight smokey and dry, some peat. Soft to medium carbonation, medium body. Coffee and peated smoke or not that present in aroma (anymore?), but more in taste. Both are quite subtle. Just in the finish its a bit sharpish and even slight alcoholic for just 8%. Also, coffee bitterness comes through more in the finish. I like the subtlety of the ingredients, balance could be slightly better as well as complexity, but I like that its not too bold and aggressive.

33 cl bottle @ hotel room, Amsterdam. No BBE info
Aroma has cocoa, dark chocolate, salty licorice and some soy sauce. The cocoa is quite intensive. Flavour has soy sauce, somewhat salty licorice, vanilla and strong cocoa notes. The whiskey or espresso notes are difficult to find; the whiskey is perhaps in the background with sweet and alcoholic tones. Quite high drinkability for an IS, I like the cocoa here. Perhaps this could work even better for me without the whiskey malts.
