Solid, mouthfilling exercise by our friends in Zeeland. Lovely, nicely bitter, unfiltered pilsner. Weighing in at a pleasant 5% a perfect session beer. Often unfiltered pilsners of small breweries (’t IJ) can be a bit sour, but not here!

33 cl bottle @ home. Pale golden color, slightly hazy. White head, leaving one ring of foam. Aroma’s of grainy malt, grassy hops and some fruit. Slightly malty sweet flavor with beginning bitterness. Finishes with a nice bitterness. A bit less fruit and more malt would make this a perfect pilsner.

Tap @ In De Wildeman. Yellow, hazy color, white uneven head. Aroma’s of grass, grain, fruit, malt, some bitterness. Flavor is ever so slightly sweet with upcoming bitterness. Finishes with a firm bitterness. If all pilsner beer were like this I’d drink much more of it (so actually a good thing it’s not).

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Medium vast white head, disappears slow and leaves a rocky white head on top of an almost clear yellow colored beer.
The aroma is so typical for it’s style. If you would let me smell this and tell me it’s German I would believe it too. You seriously don’t smell it’s from Emelisse. Some typical malt aromas, pils malts and some light herbs, grass/hay and hop tones.
Taste is smooth and even a bit floral in the beginning but looses the floral tones quickly and the malty herby tones take over with a nice medium growing bitterness.
The aftertaste is a pretty typical mix of herbs, malts, bitter and a hint of herby leaves.
Low to medium carbo, soft (light spicy, but disappears quick) mouthfeel, low to more medium body and a light creamy texture.
Nothing interesting to be honest. Though unfiltered this might be pretty good.

A typical pilsener made by Emelisse. A nice blond color very shiny. The head is totally white like a typical pilsener. First taste you feel this beer as a traditionnal pilsener like corn and wheat and on after taste you smell the complexity of this beer. A great beer for this summer.

Golden coloration, not quite transparent. Bitter, but not overwhelmingly so. Weak body. Hops hit the back of the tongue gradually and with subtlety. Tried with Dave at the brewery in April, 2012.

Bottle 33cl from bierkoning thanks. A slightly cloudy yellow beer with medium head. Nose is on grain and like unfiltered pilsner. Aroma is grainy, malty with a dry feeling, round hops on grass and slightly floral. A properly done unfiltered pilsner, good bread notes on aftertaste.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
33cl bottle from Emelisse biershop.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, pale golden colour with a blond medium-sized foamy head. Slightly sweet grainy malty aroma with hints of biscuits and a tinge of flowery hops. Moderately bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a modest carbonation. Pale malt-character with grainy spots and a chalky touch, accompanied by herbal hops towards the dry and moderately bitter finish. Not bad, perhaps (stylewise) the water is a too hard. 22.I.12

In short: An unexciting nourishing pils, slightly below average for the style
How: Tap at Wildeman, Amsterdam
The look: Cloudy yellow-blonde body topped by a small white head leaving good lacings on the glass
In long: Nose is lightly hoppy and has a lemony character. Taste packs plenty of cereals, quite fruity with mostly pineapples but also other refreshing fruits, a moderate amount of grassy hops. More nourishing than crisp. All that would be fine but there was also a sweet corn flavor that bothered me. All in all this was an average pils at best. I should have ordered something else. With so many better beers on the menu at Wildeman this beer was like a desperate ugly dude desperately trying to make eye contact with a girl but nobody wants to go out with me. I mean, with him.
