ivory white head that disappears fast without lacing. dark amber-light coffee colour. aroma is leather and beast/cow. taste is like the aroma but with some bitterness. a lot of carbonation and medium body. ok, so i know it’s a rauchbier but this one was really too much for me, expected some more balance/subtlety. bottle 33 cl / lot B / best before 9-2014

0.33cl bottle. I call such beers smoked bocks or double bocks. Pours cloudy to hazy brown reddish with beige a bit yellow small top, foam is rocky but only stays in glass as thin layer. On nose - intense, dominant smoked malt with light swetness like candies, a bit woody, a bit raisins. Taste - medium sweet, medium bitter, minimal sour at the end. Palate - very light astringent and light spicy on tongue, medium body, a bit slick and sticky texture, soft carbonation, long mild sweet and roasted, toasted like bitter aftertaste, above medium dry finish. O.A. - I like those smoked, rich malt oriented beers with good sweet, dark malt tones. Very good beer.

Bottle. Distinct smoke aroma. Cloudy brown colour. Small white head. The flavour is clean and smokey with a good sweetish malt base. Reminds me of Schlenkerla, which is good.

Murky burgundy pour with chestnut at its core and a small latte head. Aroma of charred pork belly, hickory-smoked ribs, brown sugar, and caramel. Flavor is a little more modest. Oak, cedar, and mesquite all present. Lighter, less chewy, less sticky than others in its style but all of the qualities are present.

Appearance: Amber/brown with floaters and a light brown/cream head. Aroma: Smoke with sweet malt backdrop. Flavor: Similar to aroma with sweet malt, caramel, coffee and a mild but distinct smokiness. Palate: Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Overall: A well balanced rauchbier though less aggressive than others - perfect for introducing others to the style.
