The Emelisse Rauchbier is brewed with a unique combination of five different malts, and with a large percentage of smoked malt from Bamburg, Germany. The maltery from which it comes is known around the world for the superior quality of this special malt, which is smoked on damp beechwood.

Probably the best smoked beer I’ve had so far. Smell nuts, smoked, malts. Very nice color, dark brown with a deep red glow. Nice taste and a pretty good body considering only 6.2 ABV.

black and white beer... both taste and aroma contain a lot of, well, smoke... but not much else, which is a shame.. texture starts out oily, but turns watery after a few sips... nice salty, warming (firelike) finish

Dark amber colour. Smells like nuts, smoke. Bit hoppy also. Not really my favorite beer.

From bottle. Mild nutty-smoky aroma, with tangy malt sweetness and light citrusy notes. Dark amber clear with light haze, topped with off-white creamy lacing head. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Starts with medium malt sweetness, pilsner malt with mild smoke. Stays medium sweet with mild chalky bitterness and light tannins. Finish is bitter with dry after, nutty sweet with a bit of smoke.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2011 (Bottled) I always anticipate trying new Smoked beers , your palate recieves a bizzare and pretty fucked up expereince by their "unique nature". This take on a Rauchbier is decent ,if slightly subdued on the uncompromising smoke character that makes this style worth drinking .
If you’re gonna set fire to malt and drink its ashes-it should be more intense than here . The customary smoked character of course , like liquid pepperoni is here ..and the palate is pretty rich and earthy, maybe hops coming through & it looks great in a Schneider Glass. THE SMOKE NEEDS THE VOLUME TURNED UP!!.

Bottle from Bruisin’. This is a classic take on a rauchbier with no real surprises. The aroma is smoky, first and foremost. It has that bacony quality like beech smoke. A little sour twang is noticeable. The smokiness is good, reminiscent of Schlenkerla though nowhere near as powerful. Vegetal flavors are present. Overall I am very happy with the brew. However, it isn’t as full bodied or as smoky as others I prefer.

Darker amber coloured beer with small white head and only few carbonation. Very smokey, smoked ham aroma. Full sparkling palate. Finish is smokey bitter ending with a ham taste.

Draught on the Alvinne Craft Beer Festival 2011! In the glass light copper colored, medium cloudy. The foam is very short-lived. The beer smells smoky and like smoked ham. It starts with more ham aroma than expected. Slightly fruity, roasty notes in the background. The aftertaste shows more roasted malty, the smoky ham flavor is hard to taste. Further, the beer is then more smoked, The beer comes in a sweet and fruity finish, with excellent smoked aromas!
