3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Philly steak. Bold aroma and flavor of peet / wood and roasted malts. Problem is, the body was too thin, and the peet was not blended properly. It does have some redeemable qualities, but just not blended well enough to garner a great score.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Head is initially small, frothy, off-white to light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, coffee), with strong notes of peat, iodine.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
Not that enjoyable...very peaty-Scotchy nose is pleasant in its own way but itís pretty one-dimensional. A bit watery and plain in the mouth, kinda sour as well.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle thanks to Alemax. Pours brown with khaki head, settles quickly with minimal lacing. Aroma is heavy smoke, strong medicinal and herbal, chapstick. Flavor is smoky, and again medicinal and herbal. Plenty of smoke, no discernible coffee, very medicinal and herbal. Soft carbonation, medium body, and smooth texture. May have gotten a bad bottle, had noticeable rauchbier character but even stronger medicinal and herbal off flavors.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz into chalice on tap at Novare Res. Pours a deep black with a light brownish head. Campfire and burnt coffee aroma, with a smoky flavor that is more muted than, say, a Schlenkerla, but more pronounced than Uncle Leoís. Heavy coffee flavor with a bit of caramel. Pretty solid.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sawed wood smoke and burnt coffee grinds aroma. Very intense. Murky brown color. Powerfully smokey flavor. Many beers have this scent, but few actually taste this burnt. Otherwise itís rather sweet, also surprisingly bitter, but thatís blended with the ashes here.Thick sludge filled body. Should be classed as a rauchbier proper, not really a porter besides starting out as one.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours medium brown with quarter inch of head. Nose is chocolate, almond, plum, coffee. Taste is heavy on the coffee. Some roasted malt flavor accents but strong, bold coffee here. Light to medium bodied with short, sweet finish. Maybe too much coffe? Canít tell yet.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Serving type: bottle.
Holy moly this is smoky. On the nose, itís smoky, really smoky, like the ashes of a barley field after a rain. The taste is intense - strong smoke, a hint of coffee, and a hint of stout. Mouthfeel is maybe a bit thin, but I donít think it a bad thing.
Overall, itís not my favorite beer, but I definitely appreciate it for what it is. Itís like drinking a smoke bomb, though a bit sweeter and with fewer carcinogens. If Rauchbiers are your thing, Iíd definitely recommend.

wow this one was a rich roasty ashy bomb, tons of concentrated smoke and coffee, almost bitter coffee grounds, an intense beer!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
11.16oz bottle. Labeled 7.5%, EBU 50. Best before 03/2015; Lot A. Poured into my DFH IPA glass (yeah, I know, this is a porter..). Dark brown / red color. Lots of yeast particles in the body make this hazy. Nice thin light brown head. Leaves good, thick spread of lace. Bigger bitter taste. Light bitter sweet, and a little lingering sweetness in the finish. Awesome aroma... Big, bitter roasty coffee. Nice level of smoke. Some good dark chocolate. Moderate earthy hop. Bigger body. Light carbonation. Lightly sticky in the finish. Sort of a more full, chewier body. Pretty awesome coffee smoked porter. I donít think Iíve ever tried that specific combination either, so this a new thing for me (which I enjoy).

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Smoky, malty aroma has definite notes of coffee and chocolate and just a hint of licorice. Pours a deep, warm sable with a thick, fluffy, and rather persistent buff head. Rich flavor fills the mouth with smoky malt, roast coffee and peaty notes plus a chocolaty and hoppy undertone. Firm, viscous texture is not too fizzy, but the tingle persists along with smoky and mocha tones. This bold porter is worth a search - or a trade.
