Pure class! Beautiful aroma of coffee, grass, red berries and several other things. Taste of licorice and a perfect level of bitterness. Lovely-looking too.

My first experience with this beer style... and surely not last. Rich lightly sour taste with nice bitter end.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 alfhansen (35) - Bryne, NORWAY - AUG 5, 2012
33 cl bottle at home. Saved this for International Beer Day, and this one certainly did not dissapoint. Very heavy biscuity and dried fruit aroma also a bit of citrus. Nice caramel and biscuit flavour, very complex and does a good job concealing it’s very rough 10% ABV. A very surprising and distinct chinooky finish makes this one of the better barley wines i have had so far. My girlfriends comment was "it taste like good rum", and i can not fault that, it actually does.

On tap at De Wildeman, Amsterdam, 02.03.12 Pours amber with a white head. This is initially quite furiously both bitter & sweet with an emphasis on the bitterness. There are some dusty hops and a significant warming from the alcohol. Citrussy (lemony) under that sweetness with a slight pithy edge. A7 A4 T9 P4 Ov17 4.1
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 MrHangover (1098) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - APR 5, 2013
Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber, tea like colour with a small beige head. Aroma is full of malts, caramel, madeira. Flavour is quite sweet and a bit alcoholic, but again backed up by strong malty base. Even carries a bit of a hoppy bite in the end of the flavour. Long lasting, bittersweet aftertaste. Nice in balance and a great sipper!

Sampled @ PINT Winterbierfestival, Gouda 2012. Slightly hazy dark amber color, small off-white head. Smell slightly malts, pretty hoppy, slightly sweet. Taste malts, sweet, alcohol, hops. Full carbonation, medium body.

Bottle from De Bierkoning. Dark amber body with subtle head. Nose of sweet caramel, toffee and lots of barley wine. Taste is sweet, sugary, with rough texture and lots of barley in there. Really nice. Hops kick in at the end. Very well done!

A clear light brown colored beer, with a thick foamy beige head. The aroma of fruits with notes of caramel and a little alcohol. The taste is fruity, peache/apricot, a little caramel and alcohol. The aftertaste is sweet, notes of bitter and alcohol.

Bottle @ home. Aroma is very deep and malty, some caramel, slight roasted malt, some bread and hops. Flavour is thick and malty with a nice hop bitterness, also some bready roasty bitterness and loads more of sweet malty notes. Some alcohol burn in the finish. Very nice.

Dead, dark orange. Sweet fermented fruit, light woody, raisin, dough. Bit sharp, alcohol, smooth but lots of residual sugar. Not very refined, still nice. (At Pint Winterbier Festival 2012)
