Yellow-beige small head over dark red-amber ale. Cookies, very demure,... a shy Emelisse? Quite bitter, tannine-rich; bitter cake and resiny. Finishes on a rather harsher bitterness, severe. Sliick, oily to nearly sticky MF, but snuzzling up to one. Less intense than expected. Thanks to Kees!

Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Dark amber body, medium off-white head. Nose is caramel, red berries, dark malts and hints of red berries and toffee. A bit faint, but OK. Taste is dark malts, raisins, alcohol and hints of burnt sugar. Bitter alcoholic, near-astringent finish. Medium body and carbonation. Not too impressive for a barley wine, which I normally like.

Clear red amber, beige head. My nose is totally not able to let any air through, so I haven’t got any idea about the aroma. Fortunately I do still taste something. What is taste is a nice barley wine. Not too sweet, with distant hints of barrel aging, maybe some wood. Good body, might have been a little oilier. Good carbonation.

Bottle from Bier Koning at home. Slightly hazy amber with a small off white head. Aroma is sweet but also a little hoppy. The mix of sweet and bitter seems weird for the style and made think of drinking a combination of barley wine and ipa. Still nice, but a little strange.

Mild hopfiger Beginn, der in weiten Teilen das Malz überdeckt. Eher wenig würzig, erst im Verlauf intensiver, mild alkoholisch-hefig, etwas herb. Süßer Abgang, hopfig, alkoholisch. 9/11/10/11/9/11

Bottle from De Bierkoning. Dark amber body with subtle head. Nose of sweet caramel, toffee and lots of barley wine. Taste is sweet, sugary, with rough texture and lots of barley in there. Really nice. Hops kick in at the end. Very well done!

aroma has lots of candy at first (much more than in the single hopped brewdog sorache i tasted a beer or two before...) and it has some rotten fruit/ mandarin... the candy fades very quickly however, but the mandarin remains and whats left is a faintly flawed RIS... so nice, but not AS nice..

On tap at De Wildeman, Amsterdam, 02.03.12 Pours amber with a white head. This is initially quite furiously both bitter & sweet with an emphasis on the bitterness. There are some dusty hops and a significant warming from the alcohol. Citrussy (lemony) under that sweetness with a slight pithy edge. A7 A4 T9 P4 Ov17 4.1

Sampled @ PINT Winterbierfestival, Gouda 2012. Slightly hazy dark amber color, small off-white head. Smell slightly malts, pretty hoppy, slightly sweet. Taste malts, sweet, alcohol, hops. Full carbonation, medium body.

Dead, dark orange. Sweet fermented fruit, light woody, raisin, dough. Bit sharp, alcohol, smooth but lots of residual sugar. Not very refined, still nice. (At Pint Winterbier Festival 2012)
